🌩️ Speaker Spotlight: Megan Mulford - Meteorologist

Megan is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Aberdeen. Her job? Watching the atmosphere, building forecasts, and issuing warnings that help protect lives and property across our region.

Her path into meteorology started with a childhood fear of thunderstorms and tornadoes. By middle school that fear had turned into curiosity. She was glued to The Weather Channel, collecting weather books, and even installed a home weather station with help from her dad.

Today she analyzes weather data, supports partners like emergency managers and the FAA, surveys storm damage after major events, and helps train storm spotters every spring.

Her advice to students: build a strong foundation in math and science, stay curious, and find mentors who encourage your interests.

And the twist?
The storms that once scared her are now what fascinate her most.

Her life goal:
See a tornado in person — preferably a small one, far away from any towns. 🌪️

☘️ Women in Science 2026 Speaker Announcement ☘️

We’re excited to welcome Catrina Terry, Research Scientist with Ducks Unlimited, to the Women in Science stage this March!

Catrina’s career took her from student fieldwork to leading conservation research across the Prairie Pothole Region. Today, she combines ecology and technology — including research drones — to study wildlife and understand how real landscapes support real populations.

Her story is a reminder that science careers rarely follow a straight line. They grow from curiosity, persistence, and the courage to follow questions wherever they lead.

Students, this is a chance to hear how classroom interests can become meaningful, hands-on careers in conservation science.
