This year at the Brown The Brown County Fair we're hosting a Plein Air art competition in partnership with Aberdeen Area Arts Council, The Brown County Fair and South Dakota Arts Council!

The morning of Thursday August 13th at Centennial Village!

Thursday, August 13
8:00 AM – Adult Artist Check-In
Artists register at Centennial Village
8:30 AM – Official Start – Adult
10:00 AM – Youth Artist Check-In
Artists register at Centennial Village
10:30 AM – Official Start - Youth
12:30 PM – Painting Ends for All Categories
All artwork submitted for judging at the Odde Ice Arena Lobby
12:30–1:00 PM – Judging
1:00–3:00 PM – Public Viewing & People’s Choice Voting
3:00 PM – Awards Presentation
3:00-9:00 PM – Open Gallery Hours and for the remainder of the fair.

Sunday, August 16 – pick up unsold artwork before 5pm.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2026 Downtown Art Competition. Finger snaps to our Winners:

People's Choice: A Tie, with a prize awarded to both Bethe Martian and Lance Smith

3rd Place: Connie Gisi

2nd Place: Liz Kaan

1st Place: Lance Smith

All of the outstanding artwork will remain in the Downtown Windows throughout the rest of the summer!

Thank you to the Aberdeen Area Community Foundation, Knight Foundation, Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce and Aberdeen Downtown Association for making it possible to keep this going every year!

And thank you to the Aberdeen Community Foundation Board members, and the Aberdeen Arts Council Board members who came out in support of the Artists.
