The HBIC is a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. The Help Build it Center resells a variety of donated and new items, with the proceeds supporting both new house projects and the A Brush With Kindness program. Items such as mattresses, tel
evisions, clothing, and tires will not be accepted. A Brush with Kindness is an exterior Home Preservation program that provides painting, landscaping, and minor repair. ABWK helps low-income homeowners impacted by age, disability, and family circumstances, who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes, reclaim their homes with pride and dignity. It revitalizes the appearance of the neighborhood, strengthens connections within the community, and helps preserve and create affordable housing stock. The Habitat for Humanity Selection Committees uses the following criteria to identify qualified families:
Need
Need is determined by your household income and current living conditions. We want to help those in greatest need and therefore will make a home visit to determine what conditions may make it imperative for your family to move into safe, decent, affordable housing. Ability to Pay
Can you afford the monthly house payment? These costs include mortgage, property taxes, and homeowner's insurance. Typical costs can be discussed with you. Willingness to Partner
Partnering is defined as your willingness to put time and energy into acquiring, building or renovating your home. This willingness encompasses a specific number of hours of "sweat equity" or actual work done on a Habitat home.
