Abbott VFD Memorial Scholarship Fund A scholarship fund in memory of Cyrus Adam Reed and Jerry Dane Chapman, two first responders who were killed in the line of duty in West, TX on 4.17.2013

On April 17th, 2013 Abbott Volunteer Fire Department lost two brave firefighters in the West, TX plant explosion. Cyrus Adam Reed and Jerry Dane Chapman were in class at West EMS finishing their training to become EMTs when the tones dropped. They were two of the few that arrived first on the scene, and they were two of brave men that lost their lives when the first explosion rang out from West Fe

rtilizer Plant. Jerry and Cyrus knew the dangers of a fire at that plant, and they went in anyways to do what they could to prevent an even greater loss of life. They died doing what they loved. This non-profit memorial fund has been created in memory of Cyrus and Jerry so that others who wish to dedicate their lives to helping others may do so without having to bear the full financial burden it takes to get their needed education and equipment. By helping and encouraging others to serve as they did will help their memories live on.
