Family Missions Company

Family Missions Company Lay Catholic missionaries preaching the Gospel, serving the poor, and making disciples The need is urgent; we must go!

Compelled by Jesus' missionary mandate, and filled with the Holy Spirit, Family Missions Company missionaries proclaim Jesus Christ and His Gospel to the poor. Always working in concert with the pastors of the Catholic Church, we strive to live the Gospel that we preach. We believe the Lord is calling many Catholic lay people, both singles and families, to serve in foreign missions, "the greatest and holiest duty of the Church."

Katie Glafcke, one of FMC's Member Care Facilitators, shares how life at our home base of Big Woods has been lately:

Summer is a favorite time for FMC missionaries to visit Big Woods while teens attend Faith Camp or make an extended stay to rest. Some are transitioning from the field to a time stateside; others are moving from one mission post to another. This summer we welcomed several families at Big Woods, including a family with three young children. We assisted with setting up a house, finding places for retreat, and a family getaway to process what the Lord had done through them during their years in the foreign field.

Collin Caldwell, FMC's Field Manager, and his family recently shared how they celebrated St. Teresa of Calcutta on her feast day:

On this very special feast day, we were given the opportunity to serve the poor in Dallas with an amazing organization, Project Finding Calcutta!

We served at a nursing home and met a sweet lady named Sybil. During our visit with her, she shared, “You have to love until it hurts.” Whoa! Holy Spirit moment….Our daughter Kadi was asked to read a reflection from Mother Teresa before all the volunteers went to their respective ministries that morning. Part of the reading was, “We have to love until it hurts,” and “Love has to hurt.” Thank you, Jesus, for consolation 🙌 Collin took the opportunity to share with Sybil about Mother Teresa and how special it was to hear her say the same words to us!

NEW BLOG // THE LORD'S GARDEN // Madelyn Weaver // Mexico

After a couple of months filled with travels and mission trips, August has brought with it a season of returning to a more regular schedule. I find these more routine seasons are ideal for more deeply delving into ongoing ministries and more intentionally investing in relationships.

I was recently reflecting on how each person is a flower in the Lord’s garden, as Saint Thérèse writes about in her book Story of a Soul. By taking time to notice, get to know, and appreciate other flowers, we get to witness more of the Heart of Our Lord. When we encourage one another to be more deeply rooted in Him, in the garden of His Heart, we help our fellow flowers to flourish, guiding them to His nourishment and delighting His Heart. While I often take for granted opportunities for encounter and helping the Lord in His garden, I hope to remember to treasure each moment with one of His treasured flowers and to continue to invite Him, the ultimate Gardener, to work in and through me as well.

Over the past months, I have had a chance to get to know some of Christ’s flowers in a couple of ranchos where some of the other missionaries and I have been leading Confirmation and First Communion preparation classes for children and teens...

NEW BLOG // A SWEET SUMMER // Layni Daigle // Stateside Missions

Our July was filled with many of the simple, ordinary moments that make up summer, but scattered among them were some especially beautiful reminders of God’s goodness and faithfulness. In early July, Family Missions Company hosted their annual Faith Camp for high school teens—a special week set apart for young people to encounter the Lord, grow deeper in their faith, and encourage one another in their walk with Him.

I had the opportunity to spend a few days serving behind the scenes, helping prepare meals in the kitchen, while my husband Zach volunteered for DOP duty (Dads On Patrol, aka the camp’s nighttime security).

Although it seemed like simple work, we were grateful for the opportunity to serve and to be a small part of what God was doing throughout the week. There is such JOY in knowing that even the seemingly ordinary tasks can become an offering to the Lord when done with love. And then came an especially sweet gift.

During Faith Camp week, we were overjoyed to be reunited with our dear friend Fabricio from Costa Rica! Through a generous donation, Fabricio was able to make the trip to Faith Camp and experience the week himself as a staff member. What a beautiful answer to prayer and reminder of God’s provision for this faithful teenager!

We were so happy to see and hug him again. Seeing him there was a reminder to us that God is always at work—providing, connecting, and faithfully bringing people together in His perfect timing. Our hearts are so grateful. God is indeed SO good!...
