Dear friends of Our Lady of the Bayous,

As the joy of Christmas approaches, I think of all of you. Five years ago, I never dreamed I’d be the Retreat Coordinator for an old convent turned retreat house. I was unsure where to focus first and pretty overwhelmed with the number of areas that needed attention. But then you all started coming in and I gradually learned exactly where my focus was meant to be – on you. Spending time with you on retreat helped me see that God put me here to show you hospitality and love. You are so very loved.

Before every retreat, I’ve walked into the chapel and asked Jesus, “Are you ready for this?” And He always is. Hearts are always touched when people come and spend time at the retreat house – especially mine. You’re on my mind when I walk through the chapel, dining rooms, St. Francis kitchen, and St. Ambrose wing. Jesus has given me so many new friends, I still can’t believe how much I owe you. We have cleaned, painted, remodeled, built, planted, uprooted, and pruned away at the old convent to make it what it is today. The retreat house is now about 85% restored and we did it together! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

You should hear what I want to do next.

When I sneak out to the back patio to drink my coffee during your retreat, I picture a screened back porch and all of you sitting out there in rocking chairs listening to the quiet of the early morning fog. I hear the slam of a screen door and teens running down an open porch beside the chapel, ready to jump into a new retreat workday. It’s exciting to think about these new porches, and we have friends and contractors ready to help with the construction. But first, we have to raise $6,000 for the materials. If you can help us with this cost, please donate online at olobporch.familymissionscompany.com or by mail to Family Missions Company with the notation “OLOB Porch Project” in the memo. And maybe early next year, we will be sitting out there together, drinking coffee and asking Jesus, “What’s next?”

Your friendship and support continues to be the biggest reward there is. May God bless you and give you a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

Let's build it!
