As we celebrate Black History Month, we're honored to highlight a champion of youth empowerment and education: Kalen Smith.
A proud native of Abbeville, Kalen Smith's journey is one of passion, dedication, and community service. Graduating from Abbeville High School in 1998, Kalen was deeply involved in sports, band, and even served as his senior class president. His commitment to leadership and service continued as he pursued higher education at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Kalen's career path was guided by his desire to make a positive impact on young lives. He worked as a juvenile probation officer for at-risk youth and later as an Alternative School teacher. Through these experiences, Kalen recognized a profound calling to help young people unlock their potential and pursue brighter futures.
In 2015, Kalen co-founded Developing Young Professionals Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities and resources for young adults. Their motto, "It's hard to have a vision if you never see anything," encapsulates their mission of exposing youth to the possibilities within their grasp. Through college tours, workshops, and mentorship programs, Kalen and his team strive to equip young individuals with the tools and connections they need to succeed in higher education and beyond.
Today, Kalen serves as the Director of Operations at Texas Southern University, but his heart remains deeply connected to his hometown of Abbeville. Despite his relocation, Kalen continues to be actively involved in supporting and uplifting the next generation of leaders in Abbeville and beyond.
If you or someone you know could benefit from the resources and guidance offered by Developing Young Professionals Inc., don't hesitate to reach out. Kalen Smith's commitment to paving the way for future generations' success is unwavering, and he stands ready to support and inspire all those who seek to fulfill their potential.
This , we salute Kalen Smith for his tireless dedication to empowering youth and building a brighter future for our communities.
