The recent declaration of Ebola Bundibugyo virus outbreak as a public health emergency in Eastern DRC and Uganda by World Health Organization (WHO), calls for urgent, coordinated action at all levels, particularly within refugee-hosting districts where cross-border movement increases the risk of transmission.

We call upon all refugee-led organizations to actively join the collective effort in preventing and responding to the outbreak. As trusted actors within our communities, we are uniquely positioned to deliver timely health education, promote early reporting of symptoms, and strengthen community awareness using local languages and culturally appropriate approaches.

We also strongly advocate for the meaningful inclusion of refugee-led organizations in all public health coordination structures and response mechanisms. Our participation is essential for effective community engagement and for bridging the gap between health authorities and affected populations.

Together, through inclusive collaboration and community-driven action, we can strengthen prevention efforts and protect vulnerable communities from further spread of Ebola.

Inside Bidibidi refugee settlements, 15 refugee children with hearing impairments are struggling to access meaningful education due to the lack of inclusive learning support and trained teachers. Although they attend school alongside other children, many are unable to follow classroom lessons and often rely only on what is written on the blackboard.

Without immediate support, these children face the risk of being left behind academically and socially, limiting their opportunities for growth, independence, and a better future.

The Refugee Voice is launching an urgent fundraising campaign to raise USD 10,000 to support the relocation and enrollment of these children into schools that provide inclusive education, trained teachers, and specialized learning support suited to their needs.

The support raised will help provide:
✅ Enrollment into inclusive and supportive schools
✅ Access to trained teachers and specialized educational support
✅ School fees, scholastic materials, and learning resources
✅ A safe and empowering learning environment for vulnerable refugee children

For children living in refugee settlements, education is more than a classroom experience — it is protection, dignity, hope, and the foundation for a better future. By supporting this initiative, you are helping ensure that children with disabilities are not excluded from the opportunity to learn and thrive.

We call upon donors, humanitarian partners, organizations, well-wishers, and individuals of goodwill to stand with these children and help restore their right to quality and inclusive education.

Today, we had the privilege of hosting a learning visit from the Cohere team, providing an opportunity to showcase our ongoing work at the organic waste decomposition site.

During the visit, our team demonstrated practical processes in organic waste management, highlighting how community-led initiatives can transform waste into valuable resources such as organic manure.

Such visits strengthen collaboration, promote learning, and reinforce our shared commitment to environmentally responsible and community-driven solutions.
