Our Story

The Kiyita Family Alliance for Development (KIFAD) was founded in 2001 as a response to the need for a proactive community-led initiative to mitigate the socioeconomic impact of HIV/AIDS in the Wakiso District of Uganda.

KIFAD envisions a self-reliant community where people are free from HIV/AIDS and are living an improved quality of life. Our strategic objectives include increased care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA); strengthened capacity of PLWHA and their families; and improved access to food within these communities. As our organization grows and the scope of our activities broaden, our mission has become to respond to the causes and consequences of disease and poverty and to foster community development in the Wakiso District.

KIFAD’s approach is multi-sectoral and family-centered. Our core program areas are health, education, food security & nutrition, psychosocial support, child protection & legal support, and economic empowerment. These programs aim to reach three target groups - vulnerable children & their families, key & priority populations, and adolescent girls and young women.

Our projects are made possible through partnerships - wether it is community mobilization from local leaders or support from our donors, these collaborations are invaluable to our activities.
