We reached out to our members to share with us how the anti-queer legislation in East Africa has affected our visibility and the fight for our rights.

We further explored the steps that society can take to deal with discrimination and violence against us as trans individuals as a result of these laws and why it is really important to amplify trans voices on this International Trans Day of Visibility.

🌟 Celebrating Trans Visibility Day! 🌈 Today, we honor the resilience, courage, and achievements of transgender individuals who have paved the way for a more inclusive and equitable world. See our tribute flag featuring iconic Black transgender figures whose legacies inspire us:

1️⃣ Marsha P. Johnson - A beacon of hope and resilience, Marsha was instrumental in the Stonewall uprising of 1969 and a co-founder of STAR, dedicated to supporting homeless transgender youth. Her activism and unyielding spirit continue to inspire the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.

2️⃣ Miss Major Griffin-Gracy - A tireless advocate for transgender women of color and prison reform, Miss Major’s leadership and advocacy have been crucial in the fight for justice and equality. Her work with the TGIJP has offered support and hope to many.

3️⃣ Lucy Hicks Anderson - A pioneering figure who lived her truth boldly in the early 20th century, Lucy fought for her right to love and be recognized as a woman at a time when it was nearly impossible. Her story is a testament to the enduring strength of living authentically.

Let’s celebrate the visibility, contributions, and rights of all transgender people today and every day. Together, we stand for love, equality, and the unwavering belief that everyone deserves to live freely and authentically. 🏳️‍⚧️💖

The Commissioner’s role is crucial to the promotion and protection of human rights across Europe. We hope that the new Commissioner is proactive in the protection of human rights of all people, including trans people.

We thank the outgoing Commissioner, Dunja Mijatović, for all the support that she has given to our communities.

We welcome and celebrate with local activists the news that the Greek parliament has adopted an historic bill granting marriage and adoption rights to same-sex couples, as well as fully recognising marriages that took place in other countries, and family ties of children who were born abroad to same-sex parents.

The law reflects the growing trend in Greek and European society towards more acceptance of same-sex marriage, and was made possible by clear political leadership in favour of equality for all.
