Hey everyone!!
This post is probably the biggest and most impactful post Smile I Stutter has ever made. When I started Smile I Stutter, I wanted to help my son understand that he could do anything and everything he set his mind to, even though he stuttered. As time went on, Smile I Stutter grew a little here and a little there and we found ourselves connected with building a school in Wakiso, Uganda. It was during the build that I found a deep passion inside myself to help kids that stutter there, somehow some way.
Fast forward, I got an email from Katherine Cohen, a bright and cheerful SLP living in a little village in Italy. As we connected, she introduced me to Joybound - a comprehensive curriculum that she created for kiddos who stutter that allows all kids the power to shine through communication. Joybound combines research-based speech therapy strategies with evidence-based teaching principles to empower both educators and students. Joybound is communication POSITIVE! I was drawn to Katherine becuase of her passion for helping people who stutter understand that It’s totally OK to stutter.
Katherine donated one of her Joybound kits to Trey Jr. School with hopes of helping the 11+ children that stutter at our school. When Smile I Stutter brought the Joybound kit to the Director of the school, she immediately set up a class for Katherine and I to explain how to implement the curriculum in their school. It was at that time, I thought
“lol what a chaotic harmony, a person who stutters, helping those who stutter by teaching a class about stuttering”.
Thank you so much Katherine for your donation. You have no idea the waves you have created. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes you. God bless you.
