There’s something about watching their faces light up that gets me every time. ❤️
During our mission trips, we have the privilege of bringing donated items collected from our community here in the United States—purses, clothing, sunglasses, accessories, and other little things meant to remind these young women and girls that they are seen, valued, and worth celebrating.
And yes, the gifts are fun. You can see that joy all over their faces. 🥹
But what happens in moments like these goes so much deeper than what is inside a bag.
Some of these graduates are only 12–17 years old. They are adolescent girls who have already experienced circumstances no child should have to navigate. Others are women rebuilding their lives after trafficking, exploitation, abandonment, and incredible hardship.
Serving them cannot simply be about showing up, doing a good deed, taking a picture, and going home.
It has to be about relationship.
It’s sitting together. Laughing together. Celebrating accomplishments. Listening to stories. Showing up again. Building trust slowly and genuinely. Reminding someone through both our words and our actions: You matter. Your story matters. Your future matters.
Beyond Beauty for Survivors was founded on Jesus Christ and relationships. And we believe that real empowerment begins when people know they are seen, loved, valued, and not forgotten.
These gifts may have traveled thousands of miles from our community to Uganda, but what I love most is what they represent:
A community of people saying, “We see you. We believe in you. And we are celebrating the woman you are becoming.”
This is why our mission trips matter.
Not because of what we bring.
Because of the relationships we build while we’re there. ❤️
“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18
