🌱🌿 Boosting Nutrition & Household Food Security in Our Communities! 🌿🌱

We are excited to share that under the NUAGEET Project, COU-TEDDO has successfully distributed vegetable seeds to Care Group Volunteers and households across our implementation areas!

🌾 The seeds distributed included:
βœ… Tomato
βœ… Onion
βœ… Carrot
βœ… Kale (Sukuma Wiki)

This initiative is aimed at:
βœ”οΈ Increasing household dietary diversity
βœ”οΈ Promoting kitchen gardening at household level
βœ”οΈ Improving nutrition for women and children
βœ”οΈ Supporting income generation through surplus production

Through this intervention, households are now empowered to grow a variety of nutritious vegetables right at their homes, contributing to healthier families and more resilient communities.

🌱 Learning, Reflection, and Inspiration from the Field! 🐟🐝

We successfully conducted a Review and Reflection Meeting with Community Based Facilitators (CBFs)β€”an important moment to pause, learn, and strengthen our approaches.

The session provided a platform to reflect on the progress and impact of key methodologies, particularly Gender Action Learning System (GALS) and Agroecology. Through open discussions, CBFs shared experiences, lessons, and practical insights on how these approaches are transforming households and communities.

A highlight of the activity was the field visit to Morukaleng Farmers Group, where participants witnessed inspiring innovations in:
🐟 Fish farming for improved nutrition and income
🐝 Beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood and environmental conservation strategy

These practical demonstrations reinforced the power of community-led solutions in building resilience and diversifying livelihoods.

πŸ‘ We appreciate the dedication of our CBFs and community groups who continue to turn knowledge into action!

πŸ“’ Strengthening Accountability Through a Complaints Handling System

At COU-TEDDO, we believe that strong communities are built on trust, transparency, and open communication. As part of our commitment to improving service delivery, we are revamping our Complaints Handling System to ensure every voice is heard and acted upon.

This system provides community members, care groups, VSLAs, and stakeholders with safe, accessible, and confidential channels to raise concerns, give feedback, or report issues related to project activities. Whether it’s about service quality, inclusion, or accountability, your feedback matters.

πŸ’‘ What this means for you:
βœ” A clear process for submitting complaints and feedback
βœ” Timely response and resolution of concerns
βœ” Increased transparency and fairness in project implementation
βœ” Strengthened trust between communities and project teams

Through this initiative, we are reinforcing our commitment to community-centered development, ensuring that interventions remain responsive, inclusive, and effective. This aligns with our ongoing efforts to empower communities through structured engagement and participation as highlighted in our project implementation approach .

πŸ“£ Your voice matters. Speak up. Be heard. Be part of the change.

🌿 Promoting Value Addition: Peanut Butter and Training 🍯πŸ₯œ

COU-TEDDO with support from Tearfund recently conducted a hands-on value addition training on peanut butter for members of Ongino Township Farmers’ Association in Ongino Town Council. The training aimed to equip farmers with practical skills to transform locally produced agricultural products into high-value marketable goods.

During the training, participants learned the step-by-step process of producing quality peanut butter, including proper sorting, roasting, grinding, hygiene standards, and packaging.

The training also emphasized product branding, packaging, and collective marketing, enabling farmers to increase the value of their produce, reduce post-harvest losses, and access better market opportunities.

With the support of COU-TEDDO, the farmers’ association has also received peanut butter processing equipment and honey handling tools, which will help them establish a small-scale agro-processing enterprise and strengthen household incomes.

πŸ‘ This initiative is a significant step toward empowering local farmers, promoting agribusiness, and building resilient livelihoods in our communities.

β€ŽIn a bid to improve availability of animal protein to communities in Abia and Willa, Amuria District, we provided high performing Chicken (SASO/Kroiler), Sheep (Dopper) and Cattle (Sahiwal) males for upgrading of local stocks. These efforts aim to enhance the genetic quality of local livestock, thereby increasing productivity and resilience. By introducing these high-performing breeds, the initiative seeks to boost meat and milk production, which can significantly improve the nutritional intake of the communities. Additionally, this program is expected to provide economic benefits by increasing the market value of livestock, leading to better income opportunities for local farmers. Training sessions and support services are also being offered to ensure that farmers can effectively manage and care for these improved breeds, fostering sustainable agricultural practices in the project area.

β€ŽThe Nutrition Project in Abia and Willa Sub Counties (Amuria District) is supporting small businesses through holding Agribusiness Clinics with support from Weltungerhilfe. Agribusiness Clinics are instrumental in empowering entrepreneurs by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in a competitive market. Participants receive guidance on effective financial management, marketing strategies, and sustainable agricultural practices. By fostering a supportive community, the initiative not only enhances individual business success but also contributes to the overall economic development of the region. Furthermore, the project encourages collaboration among local businesses, creating a network of shared resources and opportunities that can lead to long-term growth and resilience.

Solar Dryers have a potential of improving food and financial security at household level through prolonging the shelf life of otherwise perishable foods. Households can therefore bridge periods when fruits and vegetables are plentiful and scarce. We are starting this revolution in Amuria District (Abia and Willa Sub Counties) with support from Weltungerhilfe.
