YACOT is pleased to participate in the African Union 4th Edition of the Continental Dialogue on Youth, Peace & Security in Africa, taking place from 11–13 December in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Hosted by H.E. Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi and African Union Champion for the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Agenda, in collaboration with AU PAPS, the dialogue aimed to review the implementation of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda, as well as key programmes on youth empowerment, skills development, and employment at continental, regional, and member-state levels.

Our Program Coordinator, Mr. Stephen Dhoal Mathew Wanbang, amplified the voices of refugee and displaced youth and highlighted community-led approaches to advancing the YPS agenda, emphasizing the importance of inclusive youth participation from fragile and displacement-affected contexts in shaping sustainable peace and development outcomes across Africa.

2nd All Africa Youth Congress!

Last week, our Program Coordinator, Stephen Dhoal Mathew Wanbang represented Youth in Action Network Uganda at the pre-congress and 2nd All Africa Youth Congress in Nairobi, Kenya under the theme "Africa: my home, my future".

The 2nd All Africa Youth Congress (AAYC) organised by the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) seeks to mobilise, empower and inspire African youth to invest in the continent rather than depart from it.

Together with youth leaders we explored Pan-Africanism, active citizenship, climate justice and peacebuilding and committed to action for our communities.

Our Voice for Peace is Being Amplified

This International Youth Day, at Youth Action for Community Transformation (YACOT), we shared how we are building peace and unity in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement.

Through dialogue, community action, and youth-led initiatives, we are proving that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow, we are the changemakers of today.

We are proud to stand with refugee and host community youth who are breaking barriers, healing divisions, and creating lasting change.

YACOT Joins the Youth in Action Network

We are excited to have officially joined the Youth in Action (YIA) Network, a vibrant platform mobilizing young people to lead peacebuilding efforts across East Africa.

From 15th to 16th July 2025, our Program Coordinator, Stephen Dhoal Mathew Wanbang proudly represented YACOT at the Youth in Action Community Dialogue held in Soroti City, hosted by Ateker Museum and Youth in Action Uganda in partnership with Arigatou International – Nairobi.

The dialogue brought together passionate youth leaders and peace actors to advance youth-led advocacy for peace and social cohesion.

On 15th July 2025, Stephen also joined two Youth in Action fellows on a radio talk show held at Delta FM Soroti City to raise awareness about youth participation in peacebuilding. The conversation sparked meaningful engagement and energized more young people to take action. We are proud to be part of this growing movement of youth change-makers.

Empowering Youth for Peacebuilding

We are proud to share that our very own Stephen Dhoal Mathew Wanbang participated in the Skills Training in Negotiation and Consensus Building, held from 16–19 June 2025 at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

This impactful training was organized by -Africa in partnership with the renowned Clingendael Institute, one of Europe’s top diplomatic training academies.

The training brought together youth from Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Sudan to build their capacities in peace processes through:
✅ Deepening understanding of negotiation and conflict resolution
✅ Exploring stakeholder analysis and inclusive communication
✅ Practicing negotiation strategies through simulations and role plays
✅ Learning how to overcome barriers to peace and inclusivity

Through this engagement, YACOT continues to strengthen its commitment to meaningful youth participation in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, especially within refugee and host communities in Uganda.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Clingendael Institute and IPHRD Africa for this opportunity to enhance youth leadership in regional peace processes.

Uganda Martyrs Day: Honoring Courage, Inspiring Service 🇺🇬

Today, we commemorate Uganda Martyrs Day, a solemn reminder of the unwavering faith, courage, and sacrifice of the young men who stood for their beliefs and values in the face of adversity.

At Youth Action for Community Transformation (YACOT), we draw inspiration from their legacy as we champion the rights, voices, and potential of young people in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement and beyond. Just as the martyrs stood boldly for truth and justice, we empower youth to rise above challenges and lead transformative change in their communities.

Their sacrifice is a call to action to serve with purpose, to uplift the vulnerable, and to build a future where every young person, especially in refugee settings, has access to dignity, opportunity, and hope.

May we all find the courage to stand for what is right and to serve others with love and resilience just as the Uganda Martyrs did.

Research Training Recap!

In the past two weeks 21-31 of May, 2025, three of YACOT members participated in a research training in Masaka City— a training that was organized by the International Center for Child Health and Development (ICHAD). From a pool of over 400 applicants, we are immeasurably more happy to have 3/30 participants coming from our team.

We were introduced to a series of topics; basics of research, research problem formation and questions, research design, measurement, data collection, ethical and responsible conduct of research—principles, professional standards, and best practices guiding researchers to conduct their work with integrity, transparency and accountability—and lastly on this is the good clinical practice.

More so, the participants were put into groups of three members and tasked to identify a unique research problem in their communities, and how they wish to solve the problems identified—and very unique problems were identified by these youths.

This rigorous research training comes once in a lifetime —we have learned some concepts that would have taken us months and years to grasp and get, just in two weeks—we remain grateful to the ICHAD team, now we can conceptualize, write a powerful problem statement and through all the necessary steps in research upto chapter three (methodology).

YACOT Joins National Board Capacity Building Training

Today, May 7, 2025, YACOT was proudly represented by our Board Chairperson, Nimungu Stephen, at the DENIVA Partners Board of Directors’ Orientation/Training held at Bilkon Hotel, Jinja City. This impactful session, supported by CIVI Fund, brought together board members from organizations selected through a competitive process across Uganda.

The training aimed at enhancing governance capacity by equipping board members with knowledge on key documents like the Board Charter, compliance guidelines, and institutional development strategies aligned with donor requirements. Stephen expressed great appreciation for the valuable insights gained, which will strengthen YACOT’s governance and strategic positioning.

As an action point, YACOT will revise its Board Charter and participate in upcoming physical and online training sessions under this initiative. A big thank you to DENIVA for this timely and empowering opportunity. Together, we are building stronger, more accountable organizations.
