Our background

Friends of humanity Uganda (FOHU) is a community based organization that operates in Kisoro District in South Western Uganda. This organization formalized its existence in October 2018, though after having operated informally for some years. Therefore it got recognized by the government of Uganda through Kisoro District and is fully registered under registration number DGCS/649/2018 and the registration certificate dated 28/Sept/2018

FOHU engages in empowering young people through creating opportunities for formal education by providing support to the selected children. Support is primarily centered on proving all school fees and other school requirements (Scholastics materials and other personal needs required by the child while at school).

Keen selection is made on who should receive FOHU support for secondary education. Consideration of bright children who come from economically stunted families (very poor families) with priority going to those who have single parents and other marginalized children. Girl child also scores high in the rating which is done during selection. Moreover this charity has its base of operations in the Sub counties of Muramba, Nyarusiza, Busanza Nyabwishenya, Kirundo, and Bukimbiri all in Kisoro district; where the beneficiary children are selected.

The said Sub Counties of Kisoro district do surround the National parks of Mgahinga and Bwindi Impenetrable forest; where local communities were displaced in 1991 when the government of Uganda gazetted these areas as National parks. Consequently over 2.500 household lost their farm land and source of livelihood which again greatly affected their social economic status. Thus, untold poverty set in making parents fail to send their children to school, giving way to a cycle of poverty.
