Under the theme “Promoting Secure Land Rights for Productive Land Use and Economic Transformation,” communities across the Rwenzori region will come together to learn, engage and take action on land rights and responsible land use.

The week will feature community sensitization meetings and dialogues, mobile legal clinics, district and national-level planning meetings, music, dance and drama exhibitions, and media engagements.
It’s a week to know your land rights, access justice, strengthen secure land tenure and promote productive and sustainable use of land.

PRACTICAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & VALUE ADDITION under the Rooted in Diversity Project!

The practical product development sessions have been successfully completed, with 8 Farmer Field Schools (FFSs), 4 from Kalaki and 4 from Iganga turning their ideas and raw materials into 9 different products.

The practical products developed include composite flours, juice, spices, peanut butter and quality seed, among others.

The sessions provided an opportunity for the FFS groups to apply their knowledge in product development, processing and value addition, moving a step closer to transforming what they produce into products with greater value and market potential.

Last week, PELUM Uganda concluded a three-day capacity-building training on Advocacy at Cardinal Nsubuga Nsambya. During the training, agroecology entrepreneurs gained knowledge and practical skills in advocacy, including how to analyze and document policy issues affecting agroecology and territorial markets.

Participants also learned effective approaches to engaging policymakers, influencing policy processes and advocating for policies that support agroecology business and sustainable territorial markets.

Orienting Uganda’s 12th Parliament on Food and Nutrition Security
PELUM Uganda, in partnership with the Parliamentary Committee on Food and Nutrition Security, (WFP), , CARE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Action Against Hunger, FIAN Uganda, and Broederlijk Delen is privileged to contribute to an orientation of the 12th Parliament on food and nutrition security.
The engagement provides an important platform to strengthen legislators’ understanding of the policies, practices and investments needed to build healthy, safe, resilient and sustainable food systems in Uganda.
Representing PELUM Uganda, Josephine Akia Luyimbazi will share perspectives on the health benefits of consuming safe, organically produced foods and raise awareness about the potential health and environmental risks associated with the use of highly hazardous pesticides.
As Uganda works to address malnutrition, food safety concerns and the sustainability of agricultural production, strengthening the capacity of policymakers with evidence-based knowledge is critical. Promoting safe food, healthy diets and agroecological approaches can contribute to healthier communities, more resilient farming systems and a sustainable food future.
Healthy food systems require informed policies, responsible practices and collective action.
