Today, in the spirit of dignity and health, we are grateful to Just Like My Child Foundation for their thoughtful support.

We have received a donation of menstrual kits and Girls Talk books on menstruation. These items will be kept at the Mazzi Resource Centre to support girls in emergency situations, ensuring that no girl is held back due to a lack of access to basic menstrual health resources.

Menstrual health is not a side issue. It is central to a girl’s confidence, her education, and her overall well-being. Small interventions like these often make the difference between a girl staying in school or missing out.

We are encouraged that this support is renewable, allowing us to continue responding to need as it arises. We look forward to continued partnership and reaching even more girls together.

As Just Like My Child Foundation celebrates 20 years of impact, we commend their consistency and commitment to improving the lives of children and communities. Milestones like these are not just about years, but about lives touched along the way.

Because sometimes, the simplest provisions carry the greatest impact.

Today, as we mark , we are reminded that health does not begin in hospitals. It begins in the everyday realities of people’s lives in the water they drink, the environments they live in, and the choices available to them.

Through our Safe Water, Safe Community campaign, we have seen firsthand how access to clean and safe water transforms more than just daily routines. It protects families from preventable diseases, restores dignity, and gives children the chance to grow, learn, and thrive without the constant threat of illness.

In one community, what once was a daily struggle for unsafe water is now a story of renewed health and hope. Fewer illnesses. Stronger families. More time for school, work, and life.

This is what health looks like at its foundation.

As we reflect on this day, we recognize that sustainable health outcomes are built through collective effort. We extend our sincere appreciation to the partners and donors who continue to walk this journey with us. Your support is not just changing systems; it is changing lives.

Because when water is safe, communities are healthier.

There is something powerful about people who choose to do good.

On 10th April, Concern for the Girl Child will join hands with Raising Teenagers-Uganda and good-doers across the country to celebrate Good Deeds Day. It is a special moment to honour kindness, service, and the simple but lasting power of giving.

For CGC, this celebration reflects more than a single day. It speaks to over 25 years of doing good, walking alongside communities, supporting girls, and contributing to positive change where it is needed most.

We believe every act of giving matters. Every step counts. And every good deed leaves a mark.

We invite all good deed doers to come and celebrate giving with us.

Sometimes, a smile doesn’t tell the whole story.

We recently had a meaningful mental health sensitization at Mazzi Vocational Secondary School under the theme: “Behind the Smile – What Are Students Really Going Through?”

Students from S2 to S4 opened up about the emotional struggles they face — things that are often hidden behind everyday smiles. It was a safe and honest space where everyone could share, listen, and support each other.

We also held a session with S1 students on self-care as a tool for personal protection. Together, we discussed practical ways of taking care of themselves — physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually, mentally, and even financially.

The students shared simple but powerful commitments:
✔ Eating better
✔ Sleeping earlier
✔ Avoiding negative peer influence
✔ Learning how to save

It was encouraging to see how engaged and open the students were throughout the discussions. Every voice mattered, and every contribution made the session richer.

These conversations are important. Because when young people feel heard, they begin to take charge of their well-being.

In February this year, CGC launched the CGC Big Sisters Mentorship Programme, a program designed to walk alongside young women as they step into the professional world.

This weekend, we host Group Session 2. Our tertiary girls will engage in a practical session on CV writing, interviewing, and workplace communication, the soft skills that often determine who gets the chance and who keeps it.

Facilitated by a member of our patrons' committee, Catherine Kasozi-Opondo, this session is designed to move beyond theory into lived, usable knowledge.

We are also mindful of the people making this program possible. 17 mentors have stepped forward, offering not just guidance, but presence. A reminder that no one truly walks this journey alone.

As we prepare for the weekend, the focus remains simple:
Equip well, guide intentionally, and build women who are ready not someday, but now.

It is always a joy to host our stakeholders at the AGM each year. This was special for us as an organization because we hosted over 70 stakeholders at the Hayes Vocational Learning Centre construction Site.

The aim of the AGM each year is to account for the different ways we have worked with partners to achieve our vision of empowering the girl child in Uganda. What better way to do this than to hold it at the site where we hope to skill the youth and the next generation of Uganda.

This year, we were honored to host SSP Mucunguzi, who shared insights on key tools for protecting adolescents. The highlight of his discussion was him encouraging men to always be responsible for their families. Children learn a lot from what they see their parents do at home.

He encouraged parents to always be present in parenting and also be mindful of what they say about each other when in the presence of children.

We are grateful to everyone who attended the meeting and actively engaged in discussions on how to improve our work to support the girl child and strengthen the community around her.

This Week, we will convene our Stakeholders’ Meeting, an important moment for reflection and collaboration. It is a time to review the work we have done together and explore how we can strengthen our collective efforts to better the girl child.

Progress in protecting and empowering girls has always been built on partnership. When organizations, leaders, and communities come together, meaningful change becomes possible.

This year, we are honored to host SSP Jackson Mucunguzi, who will share insights on key tools for protecting adolescents. His perspective will help deepen the conversation around safeguarding young people and strengthening protection systems for girls.

We look forward to thoughtful dialogue, shared learning, and renewed commitment as we continue working together to create safer and more supportive environments for every girl.

Girls participating in the Grow to Glow (G2G) Project received their mentee workbooks, while teacher mentors were also equipped with mentor guides to support mentorship sessions.

The girls were organized into four clusters of 25, allowing for more focused engagement and meaningful discussions. Within each cluster, group leaders were elected by their peers, giving the girls an opportunity to practice leadership and responsibility from the very beginning of the program.

Moments are foundational in building confidence, peer support, and leadership skills among young girls.

We are grateful to the teachers who continue to guide the girls and to Girls Opportunity Alliance for supporting initiatives that invest in girls’ growth and leadership.

At Kiwoko Secondary School and Luweero Secondary School, we conducted a baseline survey with girls who will participate in the Grow to Glow Project. This exercise helped us understand their needs, challenges, and aspirations so the mentorship program can respond to what matters most in their lives.

The session also brought parents and guardians into the conversation. By introducing the project to them, we strengthened the partnership needed to support every girl’s growth both at school and at home.

We are grateful to the schools and parents for trusting us to mentor their girls, and to Girls Opportunity Alliance for supporting this work that invests in the future of young women.

In our continued effort to expand access to education for vulnerable girls, we are pleased to welcome 10 new girls into our Education Support Program for 2026.

This program follows our Enrollment, Retention, Completion, and Transition model, which focuses not only on getting girls into school, but also supporting them to stay, succeed, and progress into tertiary or vocational education.

The girls will join our partner schools, Kalinabiri S.S in Kampala and Kiwoko S.S in Nakaseke District. Beyond school enrollment, our approach works to ensure that the school, home, and community environments are supportive and safe for every girl to thrive.

We do this by strengthening the capacity of contact teachers in our partner schools through training in education policies, child protection, and supportive learning approaches. In addition, we provide skilling sessions, career guidance, and resilience training for both girls and boys to promote school retention and challenge negative attitudes towards education.

We are also grateful to our alumni under the Big Sisters Association, who continue to stand with us by providing scholastic materials such as books, pens, pencils, and mathematical sets to the girls being commissioned into the program.

As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. In the same spirit, educating a girl requires the commitment of a whole community. When each of us plays our part, we help build a stronger path toward a girl's future.
