Today the news reports that 10 paediatricians have died in Uganda this month! Medical staff are not well enough protected from the virus. Our staff are setting a brilliant example of protecting themselves against the Covid 19 virus.
The Olson mask is approved for hospital use if made of double thickness, closely woven fabric and is made to fit the face well. A regular surgical mask may prevent you spreading the virus onto someone else, but they do not stop particles entering the gaps between the cheek and nose, so offer little protection for the wearer.

The Olson mask should be washed each evening and worn fresh each day.
Stay safe and May God protect you.
The video below explains exactly how to make the mask.

Some interesting info for people with vaccination concerns:
1. United Arab Emirates have vaccinated 5 million of its population of all nationalities using Sinopharm, Pfizer, Astra Zeneca and Sputnik V. They have infections and deaths under control and expect their economy and tourism to be one of the first to recover.

2. I have seen some of the scary anti vaccine videos suggesting a plot of the west to kill off Africans.
To reassure you, a scheme called Covax has been set up for countries to donate a portion of the vaccines they are using in their own nations, which will then be shared out among countries less able to purchase directly. Covax scheme will use all makes of vaccines available, not from just one country or Company, so it is safe to say it would be impossible through this scheme to have a vaccine that targets Africans!

4. Many Christians are asking if we should be taking vaccines or trusting in God. Please read this article. The second half answers great questions like ‘Is it a worry that the vaccines were produced so quickly?’ etc.
This a long article but worth reading!

If you have any more questions,
I am happy to do my homework and find the answers if I can. — feeling confident.

Some people are asking the question whether there is anything inherently contrary to our Christian faith in being vaccinated.

Statement of the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS) COVID-19 subcommittee on safety signals related to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

19 March 2021
As of 17 March 2021, more than 120 million cases of COVID-19 infections, with more than 2 million deaths, had been reported globally. Vaccination remains a critical tool to help prevent further illness and death and to control the pandemic.

So far, more than 20 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been administered in Europe and more than 27 million doses of the Covishield vaccine (AstraZeneca vaccine by Serum Institute of India) have been administered in India.

The GACVS COVID-19 subcommittee met virtually on 16 and 19 March 2021 to review available information and data on thromboembolic events (blood clots) and thrombocytopenia (low platelets) after vaccination with the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The subcommittee reviewed clinical trial data and reports based on safety data from Europe, the United Kingdom, India, and Vigibase, the WHO global database of individual case safety reports.

Based on a careful scientific review of the available information, the subcommittee came to the following conclusions and recommendations:

The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine (including Covishield) continues to have a positive benefit-risk profile, with tremendous potential to prevent infections and reduce deaths across the world.
The available data do not suggest any overall increase in clotting conditions such as deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism following administration of COVID-19 vaccines. Reported rates of thromboembolic events after COVID-19 vaccines are in line with the expected number of diagnoses of these conditions. Both conditions occur naturally and are not uncommon. They also occur as a result of COVID-19. The observed rates have been fewer than expected for such events.

So proud of the staff of ROSMC for leading the way in getting vaccinated to ensure Uganda does not suffer the loss of life other nations have seen. We realise there is a lot of misinformation, genuine questions and fear concerning Covid vaccination. Please feel free to post your questions and we will do our best to research and offer authentic and fact checked information.
