The Alur student community at Makerere University Business School recently marked a significant milestone with the successful leadership handover ceremony of NEMUBSA (NebbiβZomboβPakwach Makerere University Business School Student Association). The event brought together students, alumni, and distinguished guests in a celebration that blended leadership transition with cultural pride and vision for the future.
A highlight of the occasion was the representation of His Royal Majesty, Ubimu Olarker Phillip Rauni III, whose presence was conveyed through a royal delegation. The King was represented by Emilio Odongo, who delivered an inspiring message on behalf of the Alur Kingdom.
In his address, Mr. Odongo emphasized the importance of education as a cornerstone for personal and community development. He urged students to remain focused on their academic pursuits, reminding them that their success in education would directly contribute to the growth and transformation of Alur land. His message resonated strongly with the audience, particularly as he highlighted the responsibility of young leaders to carry forward the aspirations of their people.
Beyond academics, the Kingβs message called upon NEMUBSA members to embrace and preserve their Alur cultural identity. In a rapidly globalizing world, maintaining cultural roots was presented not as a limitation, but as a source of strength and unity. Students were encouraged to actively celebrate their heritage, ensuring that traditions, values, and customs continue to thrive even within academic institutions.
The leadership handover itself symbolized continuity, renewal, and commitment. Outgoing leaders were recognized for their service, while incoming leaders were entrusted with the responsibility of guiding the association toward greater impact. The event reflected a shared vision of building a strong, connected, and culturally grounded student community.
As the ceremony concluded, a clear message stood out , the future of Alur land lies in the hands of its educated and culturally conscious youth. With guidance from their cultural leadership and the energy of student initiatives like NEMUBSA, there is strong optimism that these young leaders will not only excel academically but also contribute meaningfully to the development and legacy of their homeland.
