Shine Reusable Pads TO ENHANCE PROPER MENSTRUAL HYGIENE THROUGH PROVIDING REUSABLE SANITARY TOWELS/PADS TO TEENAGE

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Many girls across the globe have been affected during their menstrual periods depending on different cultures and regions, During our research and field engagements with different girls from different schools in our home district that’s NAKASONGOLA,(Uganda), the results were alarming when we found out that many girls miss school during these special days of a woman, others

have dropped out of school for they can’t afford and access the sanitary towels due to poverty the rural setting of their areas of residences. The most disgracing bit is in some societies during the menstrual period girls have been isolated to gardens/ plantations to spend the whole day, come back home in the evening and the story continues until she gets clean again, more so many girls have used dry banana leaves as sanitary towels. Many girls have dropped out of school due to failure to handle and manage their menstrual periods healthily
On this background Shine Reusable Pads got birthed to make the girl child days shine. OBJECTIVE
• Improve menstrual hygiene in teenage mother and vulnerable girls
•Empower girls with skills to make reusable pads
• Reduce girl child school drop outs in Nakasongola communities
• Promote girl child education in Nakasongola district

What an honor to host the vice chancellor of kenyatta university professor Paul Wainaina to our offices in Nakasongola
On the 29th of September 2025, together with a team from Trevor Noah foundation, the regional learning center YALI,
They came to see the works of the grant we received this year, and we are excited that he had this to say
✅He appreciated Emmanuel for spearheading this cause being male and it's a female issue, this speaks volumes
✅He encouraged us to push this to a national level in terms of impact since it's a national problem not only in nakasongola
✅He cautioned us to put more effort on mindset and attitude change towards menstruation,by doing this many will be attracted to end this problem
✅He also encouraged us to sensitive teachers, citing his own experience how teachers supported them the boys during his primary six level to cause stigma to girls whose periods had gotten to their dresses

Once again we are indebted for your coming, thank you for supporting shine reusable pads

On the 24th of September 2025, We engaged and interacted with 70+ learners of the primary seven class of2. kakooge c/u primary school.
This wasn't that usual success card
We trained them both girls and boys how to make reusable sanitary pads
We had a sensitisation on proper menstrual hygiene
Our findings are amazing
1. The boys were more active and very positive about hand sewing a pad
2. The first person to finish stitching and didn't very well was a boy

This gives us hope about fighting menstrual stigma
Having boys support girls during their periods gives comfort and grows the girls esteem to priding into their identity

Once again thank you dear learners and the school administration for receiving us mightly

51 school girls and 3 staff members were trained in doughnut making as an income generating and in reusable sanitary towels (pads)
This is how we celebrated our women's day and we appreciate the staff and learners of kyagwe road primary school for receiving us greatly, your attention and reception can not got unnoticed
Thank you
We do this to empower young women to attain survival skills hence sustainance economically and otherwise
We are fighting menstrual stigma
Ending period poverty
And helping girls remain in school
A pad shouldn't be a reason for a girl to drop out of school.
