A healthy childhood begins with clean water, safe sanitation and good hygiene. Yet across Africa, millions of children still go without, and the price they pay is steep. Without clean water, children fall sick, miss school and are robbed of the chance to simply grow up safe and well.
While children worldwide returned to school, girls in Loreng Village in Uganda spent hours walking long distances each day fetching water. The result? Missed classes and sickness from unsafe water.
Similarly for many years, families in Loreng, Karamoja Region of Uganda, have relied on water pans shared with livestock for their daily water needs.
For mothers here, every trip to collect water came with a difficult choice. The community's borehole has been non-functional for years, leaving families with no option but to use unsafe water. Cases of diarrhoea were common, especially among children, often forcing them to miss school.
Thanks be to Compassion International and Compassion International Uganda for the solar-powered water project at Loreng PAG Church - Nakapiripirit . Through this motorised solar powered water system, we have changed the situation, we have brought safe drinking water closer to the girls and the entire community, our classrooms are now full with girls, and there is a brighter future for this community.
