On Monday 30th Sept, six Rotaractors from the Pathfinders Project, whose classification is legal services, visited N&N Advocates. They were warmly received and mentored by three of the firm’s partners: Rotary D9214 Assistant Governor Counsel Rita Namakiika Nangono, Counsel Rachel Nsiyona, and Associate Partner Counsel Rose Tewa.

This mentorship visit was part of the Pathfinders Project, an initiative by the Rotary Club of Muyenga Tankhill in partnership with RC Bwebajja and RC Kigo Seven Lakes Golf. The project aims to mentor young Rotaractors in leadership, personal, and professional development, preparing them for their careers and future roles in Rotary.

The visit provided the Rotaractors with valuable insights into the legal profession. The mentors shared the following key lessons:

Professionalism - Counsel Rachel Nsiyona:
Rachel emphasized professionalism in the legal field, highlighting the duty lawyers owe to clients, courts, opposing counsel, and society. She stressed confidentiality, honesty, and impartiality, and encouraged a strong reading culture to stay updated with legal developments.

Leadership Skills - Counsel Rita Namakiika Nangono:
Rita discussed leadership skills, crucial across all fields, not just law. She emphasized punctuality, ethics, and self-discipline, urging the Rotaractors to strive for excellence. She also highlighted the importance of staying informed and perfecting grammar.

Litigation - Counsel Rose Tewa:
Rose discussed litigation, explaining that lawyers must be well-prepared for both the applicant and defendant sides of a case. She encouraged trial advocacy through moot courts and internships, and stressed passion and adherence to guiding principles in challenging environments.

"It is eye-opening for us to see the difference between what we learn and hear from those who are experienced in the profession. It is especially important at a time when leadership in the Law Society is more inclined toward younger people," said Rotaractor Barbra Aweku, a law student from KIU.

Project Chair Isaac Maliisa thanked N&N Advocates for their time and mentorship, expressing hope for future collaboration. The mentorship visit was a great success, offering practical knowledge and inspiration for the Rotaractors as they pursue their legal careers.

Rotary Club of Muyenga Tankhill Kicks Off 3,500-Tree Planting Initiative at Soni Primary School

August 10, 2024
Soni, Tororo Uganda– The Rotary Club of Muyenga Tankhill has launched an ambitious tree-planting campaign, starting with the planting of 3,500 trees over three days at Soni Primary School. The initiative, which began today, is part of the broader "Plant Your Difference" campaign, a multi-district project that has seen Rotarians around the world plant thousands of trees in celebration of 100 years of Rotary in Africa.

The campaign, which involves both Rotary and Rotaract clubs, encourages members to plant the number of trees equivalent to their ages, collectively growing their way to 100. The Rotaract Club of Tankhill City joined the Rotary Club of Muyenga Tankhill in this significant effort, demonstrating the power of intergenerational collaboration in achieving environmental sustainability.

Rotary Club of Muyenga Tankhill President, Rtn. Godfrey Kivumbi, emphasized the importance of tree planting in the global fight against climate change. "Preserving our environment and reversing the effects of climate change are key areas of focus for Rotary worldwide," he stated. "We are committed to planting these 3,500 trees and will continue our efforts in other locations as we push for a greener world."

The tree-planting initiative at Soni Primary School will include 500 jackfruit and avocado trees, alongside 3,000 indigenous trees. These trees are not only intended to contribute to environmental sustainability but also to provide direct benefits to the school community.

Rtn. Kivumbi concluded by reaffirming the club's dedication to environmental conservation, promising that the Rotary Club of Muyenga Tankhill will continue its efforts beyond this campaign, planting more trees in various locations to support a healthier planet.

The "Plant Your Difference" campaign is a testament to Rotary's commitment to community service and environmental stewardship, and the Rotary Club of Muyenga Tankhill is proud to be part of this global initiative.
