SUNDAY 9TH/8/2026 THE SALVATION PACKAGE: 3. Man's part in Salvation
IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE LOST AFTER BEING JUSTIFIED?
As far as God is concerned He has provided whatever is needed to save man and keep him saved until the day man leaves earth (John 6:37, 10:27-29, Jude 24-25).
The possibility of being lost after being justified depends enterely on you as a believer.
*After salvation if you choose to live in the flesh, you'll die (Romans 8:13). The Greek word used here to mean die is the same one used in John 8:24 to describe the end wasof the unbeliever who will experience "the second death'- a refence to etenal judgment.
*A fleshly (carnal) lifestyle can lead one into deception. See Hebrews 3:13
*Sin and carnality sear the conscience and harden the heart.
-Because the judgment and discipline of God is not immediate, the carnal are deceived into thinking that there are no consequences for sin.
-Then unbelief creeps in. Unbelief is expressed by disobedience to God's commandments (Titus 1:16).
*Unbelief is what can make a person who was once saved to be lost. Unbelief that resulted from carnality and sin makes one lost. See Hebrews 11:6, John 3:36)
" Believe here means to believe and keep on believing."
*The moment you stop believing, you start backsliding.
*But the bible warns us about unbelief (Hebrews 3:12, 13, 14).
*If we keep on believing we are secure. But if through unbelief (the result of sin & disobedience) we depart from the living God, we are in jeopardy ( we are lost).
Note: It is either believing by which you're saved or unbelief by which you're lost.
*The Hebrew Christians who denounced salvation were warned in Hebrews 2:1-3, 10:28, 29).
And we are also warned not to backslide.
Application: If you had started developing a backsliding attitude, please repent and return to the living God in the name of Jesus Christ or else you may be lost after being justified.

3. Man's part in salvation
WHAT IF THE BELIEVER SINS?
1. Jesus will defend us (1John 2;1-2). He stands before God to defend us against Satan's accusations saying, "There is no condemnation against those who are in Christ..." (Romans 8:1).
2. A true believer will not want to sin (1 John 3:5-9).
*If someone keeps on practicing sin or is addicted to sin, he may not have saving faith.
*Every true believer will have a new nature of a sheep which when it falls into mud will struggle to come out of it.
Not the old nature of a pig which when it falls into mud will just enjoy being there.
(Ephesians 4:22, 24).
*But if h t5e is tempted and yieds to temptation or falls in sin, the Lord will be right there to defend him against satan's accusation and condemnation should a believer be sorry and desiring to be free from that sin.
3. A true believer will be disciplined by God.
*When a child disobeys the parents, the fellowship is broken - not the relationship.
Appropriate discipline is what restores the child to obedience and fellowship.
The disobedient still remains the child of the parent. However it should be noticed that strong discipline can follow serious sin. (Hebrews 12:6-7)
*If you sin and are not disciplined by God then you are not a true child of God (Hebrews 12:8)
Example of king David's sin and judgment which followed.
*He fell in the sin of adultery with Uriah's wife and followed by murder of Uriah (2 Samuel 11).
*These were the judgments (disciplines) God brought unto him:
a. War and death. A shord would not depart from his house.
b. The child's death. The child of his adultery died.
c. Calamity upon his household. His wives and children were involved in worst forms of immorality, r**e (Amnon r**ed Tamar his half sister), in**st (Absalom slept with his father's cocubine in the open) and fornication.
d. Murder of Amnon by Absalom his half brother.
e. Absalom overthrew David from the throne.
f. Shimei followed David cursing him
g. The death of Absalom broke David heart (2 Samuel 18:33, 19:4)
Note: God loves His children too much to let them sin without punishment.
Three levels of judgment at which the believer's sin can be dealt with.
1. Self judgment (1 Cor 11:31). When a believer sins, the Holy Spirit is there to reprove and make him strongly aware that he needs to make the matter right.
2. Judgment by believers. If you fail to judge yourself, the Lord will send a believer to you as He sent Nathan to David.
3. Jugment by unbelievers or by Satan (1 Cor 5:1-5
4. A believer who does not want to sin is encouraged in the promises in Romans 8:31-35

‎3. Man's part in salvation
‎a. By faith receive the grace of God that came through Jesus Christ- accepting Him as Lord and Savior of your life.
‎*God has offered His free gift of salvation to everyone in the world. Faith is the hand that receives that gift. It is that faith in what Jesus has done for us that we receive spiritual salvation.
‎See Romans 1:17, Ephesians 2:8-9, James 2:14
‎Romans 1:17 means that the righteous person- one who is in right standing with God- continues to live by faith, growing from one level of maturity to the next.
‎Ephesians 2:8-9 means we are saved not by our own good works we have done but by accepting God's own grace extended to us. It is not by works we have done that we are saved, so we can not boast.
‎James 2:14 means that saving faith is the faith that obeys and acts.
‎Paul and James are not contradicting each other. Paul says that you cannot be saved because of your good works, and James says that to be saved, you should believe in Jesus and add on obedient action to do what His word says.
‎Saving faith therefore has these four elements:
‎1. Saving faith involves firmly believing that Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead to bring us life, then trusting in Him as our personal Lord and Savior.
‎* It involves believing with all our hearts, surrendering our wills (i.e. our desires, choices, plans, purposes, and motives) and devoting ourselves completely to Jesus Christ and His purposes as revealed in the bible.
‎2. Saving faith involves repentance (admiting your sin and expressing true sorrow for it & turning from it to God (Acts 17:30).
‎3. Saving faith includes obedience to Jesus Christ and His word. Obey Him by dropping off what He wants you to drop off and holding on to what He wants you to hold onto.
‎* Note that even demons also believe but they don't obey (James 2:19).
‎4. Saving faith includes a passionate, personal devotion to Christ that expresses itself in complete

‎2. God's provision to save man
‎a. God sent his only Son to redeem the sinful man from the prison of sin (John 3:16, Romans 3:23-26, 1 John 2:2, 4:10).
‎b. God's holiness required that a penalty be paid for humanity's offences against Him.
‎c. Out of love for us (John 3:16, 1 John 4:10), God Himself provided the only means of completely meeting the requirement of the penalty for sin by sending His son Jesus to die in our place.
‎d. As our atoning sacrifice (sin covering, forgiveness providing), Jesus took on Himself the punishment for our sins and turned away God's wrath from us. (i.e. justified anger and judgment).
‎e. Jesus paid everything that pertains to the salvation of the sinful man.
‎f. He is the one who turns aside God's wrath, taking away our sins and not only ours but also for the whole world.
‎3. Man's part in salvation
‎a. By faith receive the grace of God that came through Jesus Christ- accepting Him as Lord and Savior of your life.
