What have we done so far?
*So far, we have trained over 1200 VHTs in Uganda*, and we continue following up with them while also making plans to train others in areas which need them. We believe that all service programs m
easure the impact of their work; we conducted a randomized controlled trial measuring this program’s impact in 2012, and have other trials ongoing.

We are looking for motivated volunteers who are currently working or training to work in a health-related field. If you have never studied health, but want to contribute to our mission – we want to hear from you! Business, GIS, Communications – we’ll take it all! For example, we would be thankful for GIS interns to help us map the watersources and cookstoves we have constructed. Students, both graduate and undergraduate, are also encouraged to apply. Together with our volunteers, we seek to partner with current and future VHTs, working towards our ultimate goal: community empowerment in health. Do you want to be part of INNOVATIVE efforts in preventive COMMUNITY HEALTH in Africa? We send health volunteers of all types to Uganda in an ongoing, year-round basis to train and maintain community health workers (CHWs), also known as Village Health Teams (VHTs), each of whom provides basic primary and preventive care to 25-30 rural households. We also regularly construct cookstoves and protected water sources. Our Ugandan staff directs all aspects of our programs, and our focus remains on empowering the local community through health education. Our volunteers serve directly in the community in an ongoing, sustainable approach in which each volunteer, working with our staff in close partnership with the Ministry of Health, continues the work of those who have come before, akin to a relay race. In addition to the Ugandan Ministry of Health, we partner with the US Peace Corps, and several US Medical Schools.
