Method Spotlight: Emergency Contraception.

Emergency contraception (EC) is a safe, time-sensitive option used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected s*x or contraceptive failure.

It works best when taken as soon as possible—ideally within 72 hours.

Key points:
• For emergencies only, not regular use
• Does not end an existing pregnancy
• Does not protect against STIs

For accurate guidance, consult a qualified health provider.

🔍 Method Spotlight: Condoms

Condoms are a simple and effective family planning method that provide dual protection helping to prevent both unintended pregnancies and s*xually transmitted infections (STIs).

How they work:
Condoms act as a barrier, preventing s***m from entering the uterus during s*xual activity.

Key benefits:
• Protect against pregnancy
• Reduce the risk of STIs
• Non-hormonal (no hormonal side effects)
• Easily accessible and convenient

Important to note:
👉🏿Use correctly and consistently for maximum effectiveness
👉🏿Do not reuse
👉🏿Store properly to avoid damage

Who should consider condoms?
Individuals or couples seeking a reliable, affordable, and protective method especially where STI prevention is a priority.

☑️Remember: Condoms are the only family planning method that protect against both pregnancy and STIs.

Your health is your responsibility you need to make informed choices.

Postpartum Family Planning: Plan, Protect, and Thrive.

Did you know? A woman can become pregnant again as early as 3–4 weeks after childbirth, even before her menstrual cycle returns.

Postpartum family planning helps to:
✔️ Space pregnancies by at least 24 months, which is recommended for better maternal and child health
✔️ Reduce the risk of complications for both mother and baby
✔️ Support full recovery after delivery

Available options after birth include:
• Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) – up to 98% effective if exclusively breastfeeding, baby is under 6 months, and periods haven’t returned
• Condoms – safe to use at any time after birth
• Progestin-only methods (pills, injectables, implants) – safe for breastfeeding mothers
• Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) – can be inserted immediately after delivery or later by a trained provider.

⏰ When to start?
Family planning can begin immediately after birth or within the first few weeks, depending on the method and individual health needs.Visit a qualified health provider to choose the method that is safe and suitable for you.

Permanent Family Planning Methods – A Long-Term Choice 💡

Looking for a lifelong solution to prevent pregnancy? Permanent methods might be the right option for you.

👉🏿For Women:
• Tubal ligation – a safe procedure that blocks or seals the fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy

👉🏿For Men:
• Vasectomy – a simple and effective procedure that prevents s***m from reaching semen

👉🏿Who should consider them?

• Individuals or couples who are sure they don’t want more (or any) children

• Those looking for a reliable, one-time solution

Couples who have discussed and agreed on their long-term family goals

⚠️ Important:
Permanent methods are not easily reversible so take time to think, ask questions, and consult a qualified health provider.

Family planning is about making the choice that fits your life and future.

Safer Conception in Family Planning for HIV Serodiscordant Couples.

Family planning services support HIV serodiscordant couples where one partner is living with HIV and the other is HIV-negative to safely plan when and how to have children.

Through counselling, HIV testing, and appropriate prevention options, couples can reduce the risk of HIV transmission while trying to conceive. Key approaches include ensuring the partner living with HIV is on antiretroviral therapy (ART) with viral suppression, considering PrEP for the HIV-negative partner, and receiving guidance from healthcare providers on safer conception.

Integrating safer conception counselling into family planning services helps couples make informed reproductive choices while protecting the health of both partners and the baby.
