Not every child has the opportunity to walk into a computer lab. Sometimes, the computer lab needs to come to them.

That is why Maendeleo Foundation is bringing learning directly to schools and communities through our Mobile Solar Computer Classrooms—a solution designed to ensure that geography, electricity and infrastructure are no longer barriers to digital education.

These mobile classrooms make it possible for learners in underserved schools and communities to access computers, build digital skills, and prepare for a future where technology is part of everyday life.

When Nalwanga Sheilah completed her Senior Six examinations, she imagined that the next chapter of her life would be filled with exciting opportunities.

Instead, her days became predictable.

She spent most of her time helping with household chores and assisting her aunt at a small local shop in Mukono. Like many young people waiting for the next opportunity, she had the ambition to do more but lacked the technical skills, confidence, and direction to take that first step.

Then she joined the LIFE Legacy Program.

It was there that everything began to change.

As she learned to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, technology became less intimidating and more empowering. She discovered Canva, where she learned to create eye-catching designs, and explored smartphone-based digital marketing, realizing that a phone could become much more than a communication tool—it could become a business tool.

With every assignment she completed, her confidence grew.

Soon, Sheilah was designing promotional flyers that businesses could proudly share on social media. Then came a moment she will never forget.

Her former Geography teacher reached out with a request—not for advice, but for her expertise. He commissioned her to design the official poster for an upcoming study trip.

It was more than just a design project.
It was the first time someone trusted her skills enough to pay for them.

Looking back, Sheilah says:

"This specialized focus has helped me unlock an unshakeable sense of confidence when it comes to technology. It proved to me that we as girls are fully capable of executing anything in tech—and sometimes, doing it even better than the boys!"

Today, Sheilah is determined to build a future as a self-employed digital creative, using visual design and digital marketing to serve businesses in Mukono and beyond. She also hopes her journey encourages other young people—especially girls—to seize every opportunity to learn, because one skill can change the course of a lifetime.

The LIFE Legacy Program isn't just teaching technology.

There was a time when Mirembe Mary Faith believed her dream of working in technology had come to an end.

Back in 2008, she got her first taste of ICT. With only one hour in the computer lab each week, every lesson felt precious. It sparked a passion that led her to enroll for a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology at Kyambogo University.

But life had other plans.

When tuition fees became impossible to afford, she made one of the hardest decisions of her life, to leave university behind. The dream she had worked so hard for slipped away, and the years that followed were spent taking on jobs and running small businesses that were far removed from the world of technology.

As she recalls:

"That was the precise moment when survival for the fittest ceased to be an abstract phrase and became my daily reality. I had to make the agonizing choice to forego my dreams and walk down roads I had never intended to travel."

For a long time, it felt like the chapter on technology had closed.

Until she joined the LIFE Legacy Program.

The training did more than teach digital skills it rekindled a dream she thought she had lost.

With every lesson, Mirembe rediscovered the "tech lady" within her. She was amazed by how accessible and intuitive today's digital tools had become. The entrepreneurship sessions also transformed the way she viewed business, replacing years of disappointment with practical strategies, renewed confidence, and a fresh perspective on opportunity.

Where uncertainty and depression had once taken root, purpose began to grow again.

Today, Mirembe is building a career in digital storytelling, advertisements, and AI-powered content creation. She is also giving back by sharing her knowledge with others in her community while continuing to strengthen her skills in artificial intelligence with one goal in mind to become a leading digital changemaker.

Her story reminds us that dreams don't always disappear. Sometimes, they simply wait for the right opportunity to be revived.

And that is the power of the LIFE Legacy Program restoring hope, rebuilding confidence, and helping young people reclaim the futures they once thought were out of reach.

Every morning, Kisewe Mwasiti would carry her assignments with hope but not confidence.

Whenever she needed a document typed, formatted, or presented professionally, she had only one option: walk to a nearby stationery shop and pay someone else to do what she wished she could do herself. Owning a laptop wasn't enough. She lacked the skills to unlock its potential.

That changed when she joined the LIFE Legacy Program.

Lesson by lesson, Mwasiti discovered that technology wasn't something to fear it was something she could master. Microsoft Word became more than a typing tool. Excel transformed into a way of organizing ideas and data. PowerPoint became a canvas for telling stories, while Publisher and Canva gave her the confidence to create professional designs.

By the time she completed the program, she wasn't just using digital tools, she was creating with them.

Her growth earned her an internship at Maendeleo Foundation, where she came full circle. The young woman who once depended on others to complete simple computer tasks was now mentoring new learners, patiently guiding them through the same journey she had taken.

But the transformation didn't stop there.

Through entrepreneurship training, Mwasiti developed skills in marketing, customer relations, and business development. Today, she is exploring business opportunities that solve real problems in her community while continuing to inspire other young people through mentorship.

In her own words:

"I am now completely independent in managing administrative tasks. I can open my laptop and design spreadsheets, letters, and creative presentations fluidly from scratch."

The greatest transformation wasn't just learning how to use a computer.

It was discovering the confidence to believe, "I can do this myself."

And that's what the LIFE Legacy Program is all about turning potential into opportunity, and learners into leaders.
