Soil degradation is becoming a major challenge for many vegetable farmers, affecting harvests and livelihoods in Zanzibar.

ZANIMO, a social enterprise from one of the SINA communities, and part of the current SINA Acceleration cohort, is creating a sustainable solution through affordable organic fertilizer and agricultural education for farmers.

Their eco-friendly fertilizer helps improve crop growth, restores soil health, and repels plant pests while also empowering farmers with knowledge on sustainable farming practices and creating employment opportunities Zanzibar.

Today marks a significant milestone for the 10 Applied Scholars of the fifth cohort at TUNAWEZA INNOVATION HUB, who have completed their transformative training journey of the applied stage.

This program has been more than just a learning experience. It has been a process of personal growth, self-discovery, and the intentional practice of both learning and unlearning. Through this journey, the scholars have developed critical skills, strengthened their mindset, and embraced innovative approaches to creating impact in their communities.

We celebrate their dedication, resilience, and commitment to growth, and we look forward to the meaningful contributions they will continue to make as change-makers.

Nutricycle is a dynamic social enterprise tackling the challenge of affordable and effective animal nutrition for livestock farmers.

By producing high-quality liquid and solid animal boosters, Nutricycle helps farmers accelerate animal growth and reach markets faster, increasing productivity and income.

With a strong focus on sustainability, the enterprise locally sources raw materials and integrates black soldier flies to create protein-rich feed solutions, while promoting waste reduction and circular economy practices.

Proudly nurtured under Kiira Innovation Academy in partnership with Social Innovation Academy, Nutricycle is empowering young innovators to build impactful, community-driven solutions.

Together, they are transforming agriculture, strengthening livelihoods, and advancing a sustainable future.

At the Social Innovation Academy (SINA), our model is built on the principle of "Multiplication." We focus on creating resilient ecosystems where change-makers don’t just succeeded they lead.
We are proud to announce that professional trainers from across our global network of SINA Communities converged at Impact Week 2026, by Impact Week gUG (haftungsbeschränkt).

Since Wednesday, these leaders have been engaged in an intensive "Train the Trainer" track. As they conclude this preparation phase today, they transition into a critical new role: Junior Coaches.
Starting Monday, our SINA representatives will lead a fresh cohort of scholars through the Design Thinking process, translating complex challenges into sustainable, market-ready solutions.

By certifying trainers from every corner of our network, we ensure that world-class innovation methodologies are deeply integrated into local contexts. Together, we aren’t just participating in an event; we are reinforcing the infrastructure of social entrepreneurship across Africa.

AVAL Agroecology Ltd, a dynamic youth-led enterprise founded by Nabuuma Grace under Jangu International and part of the SINA (Social Innovation Academy) Innovation Academy community in Mpigi District.
AVAL AGROECOLOGY LTD is transforming Uganda’s agricultural value chain by tackling post-harvest losses through innovative solar-powered processing of fruits and vegetables, especially pineapples. By converting surplus produce into nutritious dried snacks, fruit powders, organic fertilizers, and fresh juice, AVAL champions a circular economy and zero-waste approach that benefits both farmers and the environment.
Driven by a mission to increase smallholder farmers’ incomes, reduce food waste, and advance climate-smart agriculture, AVAL is building a farmer-centered, environmentally responsible agrifood system that promotes inclusive economic growth and community transformation.
Together, we are proving that innovation, sustainability, and youth leadership can reshape the future of food in Uganda.

This week we’re running our International Social Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in Mpigi, Uganda, together with early-stage SINA teams working on social and environmental challenges.

We’ve got SINA members and international participants from 12 countries across 4 continents, building, testing, and learning and adapting fast. One early takeaway that keeps coming up:

Introducing Team SEMK determined entrepreneurs from the Ubunifu Foundation, a SINA and TUI-supported innovation space in Zanzibar. Their work addresses a widespread yet often underestimated issue, scalp irritation, dandruff, and weak hair growth. Through research and close community engagement, they are delivering an affordable Hair Crust Oil that promotes healthier growth, strengthens hair, reduces breakage, and restores scalp comfort.

Now, in the concentration stage, the team is sharpening its focus on sales, customer discovery, and real-world market experience while building a solution that advances confidence, self-care, and overall well-being. We are excited to witness their continued progress and the value they are creating for communities across Tanzania.

What an amazing week in Jinja! ✨
The second bootcamp of SINA Acceleration Cohort 11 was filled with deep reflection, refining financial forecasting tools, strengthening business plans, sharpening marketing and sales strategies, and visioning each enterprise’s one-year roadmap as teams.

Grateful to the passionate entrepreneurs who showed up ready to grow, and to the dedicated business coaches whose guidance made it all impactful.

And yes! We ended with a pitch for the SHINE FUND and the SINA grant!

SwiftSan Hygienic Solutions is strengthening sanitation and sustainability in Uganda through practical hygiene education, improved waste management, and innovations like a latrine waste decomposer that reduces disease risk while promoting eco-friendly practices.

Uganda faces a significant challenge.

over 240,000 children with autism often remain hidden indoors due to stigma, therapy costs, and safety concerns.
This isolation limits their opportunities to play, learn, and socialize, leaving families feeling overwhelmed and unsupported.

‎At the Social Innovation Academy (SINA), we are proud to support initiatives like Candela Habitus, who are actively changing this narrative.

‎Candela Habitus provides safe, fun, and hands-on experiences for children aged 4-15 living with autism.
Their innovative solution brings joy and essential life skills through activities such as:
‎Nature walks and inclusive safari tours, Art and painting, Sensory-friendly games, Cooking experiences, Grooming experiences (self-feeding, toileting, and dressing)

‎This incredible project is fostering inclusion and transforming lives, one experience at a time. It's a powerful example of how social innovation can address pressing community needs.
