Hope Care Rescue Mission

Hope Care Rescue Mission Hope Care Rescue Mission is non-profit organization that supports acid and burns survivors, victims of fire outbreaks and the disabled.

The birth of HOCRAM was as a result of several challenging personal experiences of the founding members and other burns survivors while in and out of hospital. These challenges have been a result of gender based violence that usually manifests as intentional use of acid, hot liquids, petrol to end one’s life and other natural and accidental events that happen in the lives of people. ing experiences do not start and end in hospital but also extend in society where the reality of life is seen and felt. The numerous challenges faced by the underserved groups of people include; (1) high cost of medication, surgeries and scar creams, (2) high cost of physiotherapy equipments and materials (3) lack of basic needs (4) lack of legal representation in courts of law, (5) unemployment, (6) lack of rehabilitation services, (7)social stigmatization, (8)trauma and anxiety which lead to su***de. HOCRAM specializes in areas of advocacy, palliative care, social- economic and empowerment, rehabilitation, Human rights, Education, Health, Child care support, Home based care support, Disability, research, emergency intervention, Domestic violence among others

Our home-based care program for acid attack survivors continues to bring comfort, medical support, and hope directly into the homes of those who need it most. From wound care to emotional healing, every step forward is made possible through collective compassion.

In 2022, Abubakari Masinga's life changed in an instant.

While out one evening to get something to eat in Kagadi Town, he was approached by someone he knew, a friend and co-worker. Calling out his name, the man came closer holding a cup. As Abubakari turned to respond, acid was poured onto him before the attacker fled.

The burns affected his face and the right side of his upper body. He spent three months in the hospital, enduring not only physical pain but the beginning of a long emotional journey.
To this day, Abubakari continues to grapple with the question:"why did this happen to me?"

The scars he carries are not only vissible, they run deep within.

When we visited Abubakari at his home in Namutuba District, we were reminded that healing goes far beyond medical treatment. We spent time together listening, offering emotional and physical support, and exploring ways to help him rebuild his life with dignity and hope.

No one should have to walk this journey alone. And through continued care, compassion, and empowerment, we stand with survivors like Abubakari in every step with support from our incredible partners Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI)

Healing doesn't only happen in hospitals, it happens in homes, in quiet moments of courage, and in the presence of compassionate care. For acid burns to heal, it takes a lot of time and the person goes through severe physical, social and emotional phases of life.

Our home-based care program is dedicated to supporting acid attack survivors right where they feel safest, in their own homes. We walk alongside survivors on their journey to recovery, restoring not just health, but dignity and hope through providing emotional support, empowering survivors to share their stories freely, offering rehabilitation assistance and also providing them basic items.

Every visit is more than care, it's a reminder that they are not a lone. That there stories matter and their futures are still full of possibility.

Today we managed to reach out to Experito Ssebagudde aged 42 a father of 5 and resident of Luwero District who was attacked with acid by unknown person on 23rd August 2025 at around 10:00 pm just outside his house. After spending months in hospital, Experito is back home still nursing the painful scars on his body and figuring a new sense of self and confidence.

We spent time together, offered him pycho-social support, basic supplies and also came up with a plan on how to uplift him to be able to find meaning, stability and hope in life again and continue supporting his family. However his neck still needs a reconstructive surgery because it's pulling to one side.

We understand that each survivor's healing journey is deeply personal but consistent, compassionate support especially through home-based care programs can make a profound difference in every stage.

We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners and funders Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) who have stood with us in this mission. Your support is not just financial, it's a powerful force that restores dignity, rebuilds lives, and reminds survivors that they are not forgotten.

Today we handed over sewing machines and materials to acid attack survivors participating in Stitching Future project as start-up capital, supporting them to rebuild livelihoods, independence, and confidence through skill and creativity. Each machine represents hope, self-sufficiency, and a future shaped on their own terms.

The Stitching future project trainees will be able to practice what has been taught by their trainer, make corrections incase of mistakes and become great tailors.

We are deeply inspired by their strength and determination. Thank you so much our dear funders of "Stitching Futures project" Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) for making this possible. Together we are rebuilding lives of acid attack survivors with a focus on empowerment, skills, and dignity and turning compassion into lasting change.

Project update
Our Nutritional and Pyschosocial Support project (NUPS) is going on smoothly. We have been able to reach out to four acid survivors in their homes where we have offered them nutritional and basic needs. Nutritional support is essential for tissue repair, immune function, and overall healing. We also offered them pyschosocial support to help them not to give up because the psychological impact of acid and burn injuries ranges from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression to social stigma and reintergration into society.

The project aims to enhance the physical recovery, psychological well-being and social reintergration of acid and burn survivors. It also helps us understand the survivors in their home settings, interact with them, cry and laugh together and find solutions to their problems. Some of the problems shared include:
1. Need for reconstructive surgeries especially for Lilian in badanges whose neck is bedding on one side and Frank would like to have an eye surgery.
2. Unable to take children to school due to lack of funds.
3.Lack of wound dressngs

If you would wish to offer any financial, food, medical supplies or sponsor a survivor's child to go to school, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email:[email protected]

Our dear partners Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI), we do not take your generosity for granted, thank you so much for walking with us to ensure the needs of acid survivors are met which are both physical, pyschological, social, economical and developmental for the improvemet of acid survivors' well-being.

The smiles and gratitude from survivors show how impactful this project mean, thank for pushing us forward to rebuild the lives of acid attack survivors in Uganda.

A touching story from one of our Stitching future Project beneficiary.

My name is Sebowa Charles, and I was born in Masaka but currently staying in Busunju- Ssekanyonyi. At 48, I still remember the day in 2010 when my life changed forever. I had moved to Kampala to work and was living with my wife and our two children. One evening, I left work to pick them from her workplace. On our way home, around 9:00pm, we were hijacked by thugs who poured acid on us.

We were rushed to Mulago hospital Intensive Care Unit. I survived, but my beloved wife and children did not. They died within a few days. Those memories still break my heart. I spent five months in the hospital, battling pain and disfigurement. When I was discharged, I had nowhere to start, so I returned to the village where my brother had called me to take care of his land and began farming but he is currently chasing me out of his land. Life hasn’t been easy; people stare, whisper, and sometimes mock me because of my scars and appearance.

A few organizations came and left, but Hope Care Rescue Mission has been there for me in many ways. They comforted me and gave me hope. May God bless them for restoring my strength and now I have been considered for the Stitching Future Project where I have been enrolled on tailoring program with full support from materials, fully paid training and a sewing machine at the end of the training. I'm so excited for this opportunity to rebuild my future and reclaim my personal identity. The funders of this project Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) may God bless you.

We’re excited to officially kick off our Stitching Future Project in partnership with Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) with a new group of enthusiastic trainees!

Over the coming months, these acid attack survivors will dive into the fundamentals of tailoring—learning everything from basic hand stitching to machine operation, fabric handling, pattern making, and garment construction.

This program is more than just learning how to sew—it’s about building confidence, creativity, and career-ready skills that open doors to self-employment and job opportunities.
This will provide a pathway to self-reliance, allowing survivors to work from home or in small group settings depending on their comfort and mobility thus allowing creativity and therapeutic engagement within their social networks.

We’re proud to support the rehabilitation journey of acid attack survivors in Uganda by promoting healing, empowerment and financial independence and can’t wait to see their progress unfold!

So far, three beneficiaries namely; Rebecca Nakiyin, Simon Kawesa and Elizabeth Muhoza have been enrolled on the stitching Future program.

Stay tuned for updates as they learn, grow, and create. Thank you so much ASTI for this opportunity .

5 years of hope: A Journey with a Brave Little Soul

Exactly 5 years ago, we took a step that changed both our lives. We started supporting an orphan child- a bright, curious, and resilient soul who carries more pain than most of us could imagine. She lost her mother who was the only present parent to a horrific acid attack.

Over the past 5 years, we have watched this child grow not just in age, but in confidence, joy and dreams. From handwritten letters filled with hope to photos showing progress in school and health, every update has been a reminder of how much impact a little support can have.

This journey hasn't just been about giving, it's been about learning, connecting, and understanding the power of compassion. It has shown us that while we can't help everyone, we can make a world of difference for someone like her.

If you feel called to help, whether through donations, sharing her story, or simply saying a prayer- please do.

Let's make sure she never feels alone.
