“Kakembo Street Children’s Charity of Uganda” founded and run by Kakembo Steven is a unique, genuine grass roots organisation.
Steven works hands-on with the children on the streets and has none of the infrastructure needed to run an organisation (apart from an i-phone); this approach means that all donations are used to help the street children directly.
Kakembo Steven was a street child himself and through his own determination and his Christian faith he survived all the deprivations and dangers associated with that existence. Now as an adult his own experiences having given him a unique understanding of the lives and needs of street children and he has dedicated his life to helping them to survive. Currently he is working with about 12 children ranging from 5 years of age to teenagers.
Kakembo Steven’s aim is to raise up the street children he lives with in his township (Nakwaya) and he set up his own charity to achieve this:
· by providing regular food
· providing suitable clothing
· a safe place to sleep and play
· encourage school attendance by payment of fees
· developing work skills running a small scale pig farm
All of the above aims are solely dependent on donations from supporters……. Steven and the children all live in a very deprived area of Uganda and have no other sources of income.
