For many girls from impoverished backgrounds, the onset of puberty marks a sharp decline in school attendance and also leads to drop outs in school completely due to embarrassment. One of the causes of this is the lack of sanitary protection and lack of knowledge around puberty. Because they are unable to afford sanitary protection and because they don’t understand what is happening to their bodie
s, what could be a celebration of womanhood become a night mare, shame and embarrassment and stigmatization. New Hope is implementing “The always keeping girls in school and give them hope in deep villages of western Uganda. The objective of this campaign is to empower female learners and keep them in school through providing puberty education and always sanitary protection, access to educational resources and motivation to stay in school
While the campaign is to motivate the girls to stay in school, it has a far greater objective. By motivating these girls, to have a dream and plan for their future, their self-esteem is raised and they are in a better position to further their education
Since May 2015, we have touched lives of over 1800 girls around western Uganda
