Humanitarian Visit to Goma Village – Nakivale Refugee Settlement on 5th February 2026
Governor Allen T**h together with members of the Lions Club of Nakivale Light recently visited one of the most vulnerable communities of new refugees in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, specifically Goma Village, to provide humanitarian support.
During the visit, the team distributed sanitary items such as soap, non-food items including clothes, and complementary food like biscuits for children to help improve the well-being of families living in extremely difficult conditions.
While interacting with the community, the team observed that many families are facing very poor living conditions. Some households lack plastic sheetings for shelter, and whenever it rains, families are forced to sleep in wet conditions.
Moved by the situation, District Governor Allen T**hi personally purchased a new plastic sheeting (tent) for one of the vulnerable households to help protect them from the rain.
This situation calls for collective support from well-wishers, organizations, and partners to assist the vulnerable families in Goma Village with shelter materials, clothing, food, and other essential needs.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Lion DG Allen T**h and Lion Bernard, the Zone Chairperson, for their generous support and donation of clothing to the community.
Together, we can continue to bring hope and dignity to vulnerable refugees in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

On 29th January 2026, members of the Lions Club of Nakivale Light visited Kabazana area, one of the villages hosting persons in vulnerable situations, to donate clothes to poor and vulnerable refugees, including widows, elderly persons, and children.
This humanitarian initiative was highly appreciated by the beneficiaries, who expressed great joy and gratitude to once again receive support from the Lions Club of Nakivale Light. Many beneficiaries noted that, while several humanitarian actors seem to have reduced or withdrawn their assistance, the Lions Club has continued to remember and stand with them in their time of need.
During the interaction, the beneficiaries appealed to the Club to consider ways of supporting them with food assistance and scholastic materials for their children, as they are approaching the new academic year without basic school requirements. They emphasized that this challenge may hinder their children from continuing their education if support is not received in time.
The activity was concluded by the Club President, who extended special thanks to the beneficiaries for their strong turnout and cooperation, and assured them of the Club’s commitment to do its best to explore possible ways of responding to their needs. Lions We share, care, and Serve

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, DG -CatherineJohnsonKettenhoffen
On behalf of the Lions Club of Nakivale Light and all our members, we kindly take this special moment to express our deepest gratitude to Lion from the USA.
When our club was at the verge of closure due to outstanding international dues, you heard our cry. In you, the Lions Club of Nakivale Light truly found the spirit of compassion and true Lionism. Your selfless sacrifice to pay half of our annual international dues saved our club, and today we are moving forward—stronger and hopeful—to continue serving our refugee community in need because of your timely intervention.
Once again, thank you, Lion , for saving our club. Despite our very difficult living conditions as refugees, we commit ourselves to ensuring that the Lions Club of Nakivale Light not only survives but continues to grow. With the little we have, we will keep serving those who need us most.
Lions care. Lions share. Lions serve.
Lions everywhere.

On 23rd November 2025, the Lions Club of Nakivale Light successfully organized an upper-limb fitting camp in Nakivale Refugee Settlement through the generous support of Lion (USA) and her Hand Project in Africa. In partnership with Able Life Africa, we mobilized persons with upper-limb impairments to receive artificial and prosthetic hands to help them carry out daily activities, reduce stigma and stress, and improve their independence and dignity.

Our initial target was to support 43 beneficiaries, but due to the overwhelming demand, this number increased to 48. Unfortunately, Able Life Africa technical team had only one day available for the camp in Nakivale. As a result, only 18 beneficiaries were fully served, and the remaining beneficiaries are waiting for the next fitting camp.

As the Lion Secretary, , together with all members of the Lions Club of Nakivale Light, we express our deepest gratitude to Lion for extending this impactful project to refugees and helping transform lives in our community. We equally thank Able Life Africa for their dedication and the risks they undertook to travel at night to ensure our people were served.

Together, we can make a difference.
Where there is a need, there is a Lion.
