We have returned from the Palabek Resilient Design with renewed energy ⚡ and a clear mission: to strengthen our capacity to improve household yields in Nakivale 🌱.
Resilience is often defined as the ability to adapt to shocks—but for us, the big question was how to translate that into practical solutions for our community 🤔.
Since Monday, we have been on the ground designing our small Permagarden Demo at 🌿.
Key pillars of our design include:
💧 Hydrology: Starting at the “top” of the site to manage water flow—slowing, sinking, and spreading every drop to prevent erosion and store water in the soil
🌱 Soil Health: Building “living soil” through double-digging and biodiverse inputs—allowing natural systems to manage pests, improve fertility, and co-create biodiversity for resilient and productive gardens
🤝 Community Engagement: Ensuring the community is involved in every swale we dig and every seed we plant
Our small Permagarden demo 🌾 will serve as a foundation where participants will not only learn—but practice real, locally adapted solutions for food security and regeneration during our upcoming training on May 4th 📅.
We are excited to show that by working with soil, insects 🐜, and water cycles 💧, we can co-create a more food-secure and resilient future.
🙏 Thank you to our facilitators and partners for helping us reach this milestone.
In Nakivale, we don’t just talk about resilience,we design for it
