Our commitment to extend healing advocacy trainings continues tobstand strong and the ripple effect has been speaking volumes.

Last week the team met sinior men and women teachers of Ntungamo district . These teachers are the ones identified by school heads to work as counselors in schools since the schools dont enroll trained counselors. The seniors got trained on how to identify a traumatized student, child and teacher, understood trauma and its basics, the neuroscience of stress and trauma informed crisis response and emotional first aid. (Peer support skills)

We are so much glad to see how these teachers are open to learning and most importantly how they became fully present, grounded and open to learn, relearn and unlearn.

Its during the session that they got to understand that diff people are struggling with generational trauma and its not their fault all they need is to pass on trauma informed and healing centered care.

We continue to ensure healing resources reach people in the deeper communities and that is why we use radio talk shows to reach more communities. Since radio is the main and affordable source of information for so many rural communities in Uganda

We had a training with center chair persons in ntungamo district last week. While tackling isssues regarding handling a sexual violence survivor and the peer support that is supposed to be given, one of the participants shared this case scenario in his school.

In his school, after a holiday break girls in primary 6 and 7 came back when they had grown fat. There were 4 specific girls that the school sinior woman identified as being pregnant by look of her eyes. She informed the headteacher who went and invited a midwife to examine the 4 girls. The midwife identified one of the girls to be pregnant. The headteacher took this girl back to her parents and the parents purnished this girl heavily asking her to speak out who had pregnanted her, she told them no one. They went ahead and beat her seriously but she kept saying she is not pregnant.
They took her to police, police also beat her seriously to apoint where they got tired of beating her. They wanted her to speak out who pregnanted her until one officer said “according to jow she has been beaten and she aint saying anything let us re do the test using urine sample. They took her to a facility, the hcg test was done and it came out negative.they had to do it again and it was negative.

The young girl 14year old went through both physical and psychological pain because the people that were handling her were not trauma informed.

And now the headteacher felt guilty ever since 15 years have passed but because of his powers he never went to the young girl and apologise to her.

This is why our trauma informed and healing centered care is very important for leaders such that we are able to dissrupt harm and violence that can be passed onto these young people through the leaders who use purnishment as a way to despline.

To the teachers that have taken our healing advocacy training course, I believe none of you can punish students anymore you instead pass on healing centered care.
when we see such we feel so sorry for the teachers or any other leaders that have not yet gotten a chance to take on our trauma informed and healing centered care training.

you all know that unhealed trauma fuels anger, rage and hate and in the process we do more harm to others and our selves.

we all can replace corporal punishments with healing centered care or support.

As we conclude every healing advocacy training, we have a post training feedback questionaire that we give to participants to fill. There is a question normally asked tha “ if everyone in the world got access to such a training, what would change?” 90% of the participqnts say there would be peace and harmony in the world, a world free from violence and harm.

That led to a realization that for peace to be felt and visible in the world, individuals, families, communities and institutions need to work on their internal peace first. And this would only be possible if individuals would prioritize their mental wellness over anything else.

We congratulate the so many community leaders who turned up for this training and we are so grateful to have them join us as community healing advocates keeping survivors of harm, violence and generational trauma safe while breaking the cycles of harm in the community.

We recently moved back to Karo Community to provide Healing advocacy and peer support training to parents and care givers of this community.
This is the same community where we had a 4day training for their youths late last year.
We got astonished by the huge turn up of the parents who came very excited to share the impact that was made on their children due to the training they got and at the same very excited to learn, relearn, un learn and renew themselves.

It was an inspiring at the same time emotional moment to witness the relief that parents got after we trained their children.

Some shared testimonies 3 young boys had started drugs and droped out of school but after the training they decided to go back to school and openly shares that they wont smoke drugs anymore.

Other parent shared how gratefu she was because her children had developed compassion and empathy for her understanding that its not their mothers fault that they are un able to be in school instead they started supporting her with domestic work.

And the parents too were grateful that they were also considered for a training . One mentioned how she has been like a tree whose branches were cut off ling time ago and our healing resources have been watering them and so the branches are regrowing coming out much better and more stronger and beautiful.

We're thrilled to share that our recent holiday break was filled with meaningful connections with the young people we work with. It's clear that with the right guidance and support, these incredible young minds have the potential to become exceptional leaders.

Through creative approaches like dance, art, storytelling, and role-playing, we helped the youths tap into their vision for the future. They created visual representations of their goals, giving them a clear sense of who they aspire to be. We also explored acts of kindness together, practicing sympathy, empathy, and compassion as they supported marginalized groups in their communities, like the sick, elderly, orphans, and people with disabilities. It was powerful to hear them share the emotions that followed these experiences.

Of course, we also addressed the challenges they face, from violence and lack of school fees to child labor, early marriages, and teenage pregnancies. We're providing trauma-informed, healing-centered care, peer counseling support, and teaching resilience tools to help them navigate their journeys.

It's amazing to see these young people envisioning their future and taking steps towards it. We're honored to walk alongside them.
