For four months, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, Deputy President Northern Region, has been acting President of our Party. During this period, she has steered the party well and kept the revolution alive. We're all very grateful for her dedication and service.

Two additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of Sydney Gongodyo, a professional rugby player, following an incident that occurred on 5 June 2026.

The suspects have been identified as Mugwiisa Obed and Owino Joseph, a security guard. Mugwiisa Obed was captured in video footage wearing a yellow T-shirt and carrying a large log during the incident. During interrogation, he led investigators to a local laundry (dobbi) where he had taken the yellow T-shirt he was seen wearing on the day of the attack. The garment was subsequently recovered as part of the ongoing investigations.

Their arrest brings the total number of suspects currently in custody to ten (10) as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue.

Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the incident.

We remain committed to ensuring that all those responsible for this criminal act are held accountable and brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The whole story behind Sydney Gongodyo Gyabi's death is just too disturbing.

How do you attack someone you never actually saw committing a crime and beat him to death simply because a woman accused him of snatching a bag? And just like that, boda boda riders started beating him?

How can the son of one of the country's top lawyers ‎(Charles James Gyabi of Gyabi & Co. Advocates), a Uganda rugby cranes player, a player for one of the country's leading rugby clubs Pirates, and a Makerere University student be murdered on mere suspicion?

What exactly was in that bag that Gongodyo couldn't afford?

How is it that the Uganda Police Force and the UPDF were able to swiftly intervene within just seconds and save Christopher Okello Onyum after he slaughtered 4 innocent toddlers at a school, even standing ready to shoot anyone who attempted to lynch him, yet they could not reach on time to save a national team player Sydney Gongodyo who was beaten for more than 30 minutes?

What happened to Gongodyo can happen to anyone. We must condemn mob justice/mob attacks in the strongest terms possible and encourage people to take suspects to the nearest police station to face the law instead of taking the law into their own hands.
