RAMADAN
Ramadan is the most spiritual time of the year for Muslims and a joyous period that many look forward to. It is observed all around the world, including by one million Londoners every year.

The month involves a regiment of fasting (abstaining from food and yes not even water ) from dawn till sunset each day.

But for many Muslims, the purpose of Ramadan means a lot more to them than just refraining from food and drink in the day. It is also a time of deep reflection in reading the Quran, staying away from sins, asking for forgiveness, and performing extra good deeds such as additional prayers late into the night (taraweeh).

ZAKAT

WHAT IS ZAKAT

Zakat is the amount of money that every adult, mentally stable, free, and financially able Muslim, male and female, has to pay to support specific categories of people. This category of people is defined in surah at-Taubah (9) verse 60: “The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and (for) the wayfarers; a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is knower, Wise.” (The Holy Qur’an 9:60).

The obligatory nature of Zakat is firmly established in the Qur’an, the Sunnah (or hadith), and the consensus of the companions and the Muslim scholars. Allah states in Surah at-Taubah verses 34-35: “O ye who believe! there are indeed many among the priests and anchorites, who in Falsehood devour the substance of men and hinder (them) from the way of Allah”.

Zakat is obligatory when a certain amount of money, called the nisab is reached or exceeded. Zakat is not obligatory if the amount owned is less than this nisab.

Global Helping Hands uses zakat to help some of the world’s poorest and most destitute communities. Your donations bring joy to these people and bring hope that one day they will be able to give rather than receive zakat.

Today, sponsor an orphan and help to change the lives of children all over the world.As a result, losing a parent can make access to education, shelter, nutritious meals, and the prospect of a secure future an impossible dream. This is why it is incumbent upon all of us to care for orphans.The reality of poverty is a daily burden for many orphaned children. They ARE left wondering where my next meal… Where will we be able to live? Will we survive if we get sick and can’t afford medicine?These children are extremely vulnerable and face a bleak future because they lack much-needed educational support, health care, and age-appropriate safe places to play and grow

Orphan care is an important aspect of Islam. Orphans are mentioned 22 times in the Qur’an; mistreatment of orphans is a serious sin, but nurturing and sponsoring them is a tremendously valuable good deed.The Prophet (saw) said, ‘The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this’, and he (saw) held his two fingers together to illustrate. [Bukhari]Giving charity blesses and increases our wealth, because only Allah has control over our rizq (provision). Giving during a crisis is thus a lovely way to express your faith in Allah and remind yourself that you are solely reliant on Him.
