Our hearts are shattered.
Last Monday evening, three children living on the streets were beaten to death by a mob in our city over allegations of theft. It is impossible to imagine the fear, pain, and hopelessness they must have felt in their final moments. No child should ever leave this world that way.
Yes, stealing is wrong. But no human being deserves to be tortured and killed by a crowd. These were not just "street kids." They were children with names, dreams, and lives that mattered. Behind every child on the street is a story of poverty, hunger, abuse, abandonment, or circumstances they never chose.
This tragedy is a painful reminder that we are failing our most vulnerable children. Instead of asking how they ended up on the streets, we too often judge them, reject them, and, in the worst cases, treat them as if their lives have no value.
At Saved By Music Foundation, this heartbreaking loss strengthens our resolve. We will continue doing everything within our ability to rescue children from the streets, give them a safe place to call home, restore their dignity, and help them discover hope through music, education, love, and care. Every child deserves a second chance before it is too late.
We also call upon the Uganda Police Force to thoroughly investigate this horrific incident, identify those responsible as seen in the circulating videos, and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
Today, three families are grieving. Three young lives have been cut short. Three futures have been stolen forever.
May their souls rest in peace, and may their deaths awaken us all to the urgent need to protect not destroy the children who need us most.
