We celebrate our team leader Mr. Mweru Peter's appointment as the Youth Representative on the Busiu HCIV Health Unit Management Committee (HUMC) a remarkable milestone in advancing youth representation in health governance across Mbale District and Eastern Uganda.
This appointment is not just a personal achievement but a collective victory for all young people whose voices have often been missing in spaces where critical health decisions are made. Through this representation, young people will now have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to planning, budgeting, and decision-making processes that shape the quality and accessibility of health services including Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (AYSRH).
The inclusion of youth on HUMCs is a key step toward implementing the 2019 Ministry of Health guidelines, which emphasize the importance of involving young people in health governance structures. This milestone was realized through consistent advocacy and partnership under the , supported by AU-EU Youth Lab, which works to strengthen youth participation and accountability within health systems.
As MNYPA, we believe that when young people are given a seat at the table, health systems become more responsive, inclusive, and equitable. This achievement motivates us to continue working with District Health Teams and leaders to ensure that every health facility in Mbale and beyond has youth representation on its HUMC.
