From scissors to sewing machines—this is how we are building peace in rural Mayuge, Eastern Uganda. 🇺🇬✊

At Inspire A Dream Initiative (IDI), we believe that when young people have skills, they have hope. When they have income, they have dignity. And when they have both, they become peacebuilders in their own communities.

Through our vocational training programs in hairdressing and tailoring, we are equipping youth with practical, market-relevant skills that:
💇🏾‍♀️ Create sustainable livelihoods
🧵 Build financial independence
🌍 Foster social cohesion and reduce violence

One graduate now runs her own salon, employing two other young people from her village. She is proof that skill is strength—and that self-reliance is the foundation of lasting peace.

Skill = Self-reliance. Self-reliance = Peace.

Introduction:

Peacebuilding extends beyond merely halting conflict. What happens after violence ends? How can communities rebuild trust, mend relationships, and prevent further tensions from arising?

At Queen of Peace Nur. & Primary School, Butegwa, we're building peace through education AND creativity.

"Peacebuilding is not only about ending conflict; it stretches beyond that."

Lasting peace depends on healing, trust, active participation, and prompt action at early signs of conflict.

We are thrilled to announce that our Team Leader, Mugalula Ashiraf, will be joining the Amani Pamoja Partnership and Youth Exchange, co-funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ Programme, taking place from 14th – 18th July 2026 in Mombasa, Kenya! 🇰🇪🤝

Through innovative initiatives such as the Inspire Peace League, he harnesses the power of sport, dialogue, and youth leadership to transform conflict, strengthen social cohesion, and build more peaceful communities across Uganda and beyond. His work demonstrates that peace is not just the absence of violence—it is the presence of justice, inclusion, and opportunity for young people.

🌍 The exchange workshop will bring together 24 youth leaders from six countries across Europe and Africa—Germany, Italy, Kenya, Spain, Tanzania, and Uganda—representing organisations working in peacebuilding. It aims to foster a learning partnership, facilitate the exchange of experiences, and document good practices in peacebuilding, with a particular focus on advancing the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda.
Stay with us for more updates from Mombasa as we continue to introduce the remarkable young peacebuilders who will be learning, collaborating, and building lasting partnerships across Africa and Europe! 🌍✨
