Due to deforestation related to cultivation and other human activities, this small forest has been separated from the nearby Budongo Forest Reserve. Although Budongo has hundreds of chimpanzees, the Kasokwa Forest has a tiny community of only 16 chimpanzees struggling to stay healthy and avoid further encroa...chment by humans. The Kasokwa Forest Project helps protect these chimpanzees (and other
primates living in the forest) by maintaining a watchful presence, working with local people to recognize the value of wildlife, and spreading a conservation education message. In the future, we hope to expand our operation to include assessment of other fragments and further spreading our conservation initiatives in the region.
