At FOHO Uganda, we believe that Safe motherhood begins with communities that are informed, supported and able to access the right services at the right time.
Today, in partnership with CEHURD and Masaka District Local Government, we successfully conducted an orientation and capacity-building session for health workers and peer educators in Bukakata Sub-County, Masaka District, as part of the Community Voices for Safe Motherhood programme.
The session focused on strengthening the capacity of frontline health workers and peer educators to provide inclusive, youth-friendly and person-centred services, while integrating Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Gender-Based Violence (GBV) response, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and livelihoods.
Participants highlighted persistent challenges among Adolescents aged between 15-24 including teenage pregnancy, unmet family planning needs, complications related to unsafe abortion, and barriers that prevent community members from accessing timely and appropriate care.
Importantly, the meeting was not only about identifying challenges it was about identifying what can change in our respective capacities to address the highlighted challenges.
Through Community Voices for Safe Motherhood, we are supporting a stronger connection between communities and health services. By equipping health workers and peer educators with the knowledge and skills they need, we are helping create an environment where Adolescents can seek care without fear, receive information without judgement, and have their voices heard.
We extend our sincere appreciation to CEHURD, Masaka District Local Government, the health workers, peer educators and all participants for their commitment, openness and valuable contributions. Your partnership and dedication continue to make community-led change possible.
Together, we are turning community voices into action for safer motherhood and healthier communities.
