MARGARET SWAN SHOULD HAVE MADE IT HOME.

At 66 years old, Margaret Swan had already spent a lifetime caring for others as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and retired daycare worker.

On May 30, 2026, she boarded a MARTA train in Atlanta expecting an ordinary day.

Instead, authorities say she was randomly attacked by a stranger who stabbed her nearly 20 times inside a crowded train car.

Police arrested a 25-year-old suspect within minutes of the attack.

For Margaret's family, however, the arrest cannot replace the woman they called the heart of their family.

What happened to Margaret has left a community grieving and asking how such violence could unfold on a public train in broad daylight.
