Welcoming a new week and new friends to Kitega Community Centre. 🇺🇬🇪🇸
Today we had the joy of meeting and welcoming our new volunteers from Spain: Cecilia, Pablo, Guillermo, Estela and Manuel as they begin their time with us at Kitega.

Their journey is not just about volunteering, but about learning, sharing, listening and experiencing community life together. Over the coming days, they will walk alongside our team, our programmes and the wider community, and we are excited for all that this exchange will bring.
At Kitega, we believe the best journeys are the ones where everyone learns from each other.
We are so glad to have you here. ❤️

They came from Calamocha, Spain, to Kitega expecting to learn, share and experience community life.
Two weeks later, Esther, Martin, Marta and Valeria left carrying something much bigger: relationships, a new understanding of community, and a story about Uganda they had lived for themselves. 🇺🇬🇪🇸

For Martin, one lesson stood out: pole pole — slowly, step by step.

For the group, it was the strength of community, the joy found in everyday life, and the people who welcomed them into their homes and hearts.

They arrived as volunteers.

They left as friends, family and ambassadors.

Because sometimes the greatest impact of volunteering isn’t what you leave behind.

It’s what you carry home.

Inspired by a conversation that started three years ago under an avocado tree in Geregere community, to a more safe and sustainable workplace for the women.

🇪🇸🇺🇬 Yesterday the Centre family celebrated Spain’s World Cup victory alongside our Spanish volunteers. For a few moments, backgrounds, languages, and cultures gave way to laughter, cheers, and shared joy.

These are the moments that remind us that community is built not only through projects and programmes, but also through celebrating life together.
Congratulations to Spain on becoming World Champions! 🇪🇸🏆 ⚽️
