15 year old Simon Peter started the Carpentry and Joinery course at IGF's technical institute at the start of this year. It's a 3 year course which is nationally accredited.

Simon Peter completed primary 7 and decided to learn Carpentry instead of going into highschool, citing the lower cost of fees a big advantage.

"My dream is to own a big workshop in my village and help teach others" Simon Peter said.

Technical training offers youth the opportunity to learn practical skills for employment, providing a pathway for those unable to continue into highschool.

Lisa is in K2 nursery class. She says she wants to be a police woman when she grows up

She likes learning English at school, and helping her mum at home to wash the dishes. On Sunday she goes to church with her sister and brother.

Lisa is just one of many children whose lives are being transformed through education at IGF.

We have had a few enquiries recently about how people can continue to donate to our projects..

Donations from Australia and USA are able to be made through our long-term partner, Global Development Group . GDG have been overseeing our projects for almost 20 years, and continue to receive donations that directly support our work.

IGF projects are labelled with Global Development Group as 'J747N Irene Gleeson Foundation'.

IGF Amida nursery and primary school has 95 children enrolled in the nursery section this year, across classes K1 to K3.

It's promising to see an increase in the number of children completing nursery education before moving into primary school. The focus in nursery is similar to pre-school, where children learn the basics of numeracy and literacy, and have fun along the way.

Joyce is the head cook at our Amida primary school, cooking for both pupils and staff at the school.
As a single mother of 4 children, Joyce's consistent employment at IGF for over 15 years has enabled her to educate and support her children. Her youngest daughters are currently pupils within the school.

Joyce is pictured here carrying water from the borehole over to the kitchen for cooking.
We are grateful to Joyce and each of our staff who work hard each day in our schools.

Eunice is 17 years old, and stopped her primary education in P6 class due to lack of support from her family and inability to pay school fees. Now she is undertaking a non-formal course in tailoring at IGF's technical institute.

Eunice told us, 'I wanted to do tailoring because in one year I can do something and I can support myself. i would love if I can reach up to craft level. I am learning a lot and I believe I will achieve something'.

IGF's technical institute offers a range of courses from non-formal to nationally accredited. Providing opportunities for young women and men to obtain skills for a productive future.

Last weekend the health team were joined by Australian volunteer Michele, for a health camp in Palabek.
The team provided education to women who came from the nearby community, and provided screening for cervical cancer and malaria. 67 women were screened for cervical cancer, which is a great number.
The positive cases will now be referred to Kitgum Government Hospital for treatment.

Well done to the health team for this great activity, and thank you to Michele and partners for supporting and facilitating this project!

International Women's Day 2026.
Today and every day, we celebrate the women working hard to serve the children in our projects, and continue to highlight the need for equal access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for women and girls, so that nobody is left behind purely because of their gender.

Over the past 2 days the health team ran a health camp in Palabek, focusing on women's health education and testing for cervical cancer.
We are grateful for these initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women and girls in our community.
