*What vitiligo actually is:*
Vitiligo is an *autoimmune skin condition*. Your immune system mistakenly attacks the melanin-producing cells called melanocytes. That’s why you get white patches where pigment is lost.
*How you CANNOT get it:*
- S*x / intimacy
- Touching, hugging, kissing, sharing clothes/towels
- Blood, sweat, or saliva
- From mother to baby during birth
It’s not contagious at all.
*What actually causes it:*
Doctors think it’s a mix of:
1. *Genetics* — runs in families sometimes
2. *Autoimmune triggers* — stress, illness, sunburn
3. *Environmental factors*
*Bottom line*: You can’t "catch" vitiligo from anyone, and you can’t pass it to a partner through s*x.
Lots of people with vitiligo have normal relationships, marriages, and kids. The biggest challenge is usually stigma, not the condition itself.
