Poor management resulted in a break-down of the school and the quality of education was far below acceptable levels. Together with a new and dynamic board for the school and a new team of teachers we want to make this school standout. Our dream
Bondeko primary school is going to be a school that provides quality education for the orphans and vulnerable children of the community. A school where chi
ldren get all the attention, care and support they need to grow up as people who can help to develop the country. The school stresses the development of ‘head, heart and hands’; intellectual development is as important as social skills, agriculture, communicative skills and attitudes like honesty, integrity and self-esteem. Abuse and neglect of children are common in our community;
we hope to employ a social worker where children can tell
their stories and who is able to advise and guide parents
and guardians. We would like children to become change
agents for their own home situation. The children
In order to be able to give quality education we have no
more than 35 children in a class. That is much less than the
national average of 90. The Ugandan educational system
has seven years of primary school and where possible
children will first attend nursery classes for two years. With a total of seven classes we will have 220
children in school; all of them live at walking distance. The educational program
A number of subjects are compulsory in the Ugandan system: English, mathematics, social science and science; at the end of the seven years all kids will pass the national exams for these subjects. Schools are free the add more subjects and since agriculture is an important element of life here in Uganda, it will also be an important subject at the Bondeko school. For this part of the training we work in close collaboration with the Anam Cara education farm which is at walking distance from the school.
