Today, Uganda commemorates Archbishop Janani Luwum Day, honoring the former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda who was martyred on February 16, 1977.
Archbishop Luwum courageously spoke out against injustice, human rights abuses, and the violation of human dignity during Idi Amin’s regime. His unwavering faith and bold leadership remain a powerful reminder that moral courage and integrity are essential pillars of national development.
As we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded that sustainable development must be grounded in justice, accountability, and respect for human rights.
At HIDEUg (Help Initiative for Development Uganda), we draw inspiration from his sacrifice as we continue to promote inclusive development, good governance, and human dignity for all.
