🗳️ What is Voter Education—and Why Does Inclusion Matter?

As part of our ongoing work through the SCEPPA-K Program, we continue to roll out voter education sessions across Kasese District. But what exactly do these sessions involve—and why are they so important?

âś… Voter education is about equipping citizens with the knowledge, confidence, and tools they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box. In our sessions, we cover:

What your rights and responsibilities are as a voter

How elections work at local and national levels

The importance of peaceful participation and issue-based voting

How to assess candidates and demand accountability from leaders

📢 But beyond just information, these sessions are designed to support inclusion in voting decisions.

We create safe, open spaces where youth, women, persons with disabilities, and marginalized voices are encouraged to ask questions, share views, and feel empowered to vote—and lead.

🧕🏾👨🏾‍🌾👩🏿‍🎓 From the elderly in remote villages to first-time voters in urban centers, every citizen deserves a say in shaping our democracy.

Through SCEPPA-K, we are breaking down barriers—social, gender-based, and informational—that have historically excluded many from full participation in Uganda’s electoral processes.

Since July 2025, Musingika Foundation in partnership with Kalu Mart Health Centre-Mubuku , Mubuku and Hima Town Councils, and community health actors like Kisojo Health Centre, has been implementing the FloodGuard Kasese Project — a groundbreaking initiative to strengthen health systems in the climate-vulnerable river zones of Nyamwamba, Sebwe, and Mubuku in Kasese District.

These communities, repeatedly battered by seasonal and flash floods, face the brunt of climate change through destroyed infrastructure, outbreaks of waterborne diseases, and cut-off access to essential health services. Vulnerable groups — women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities — suffer the most.

đźš‘ Our Objective:
To strengthen health systems, equip communities, and prepare for floods — not just respond to them.

🛠️ What We are Doing:

Training Village Health Teams (VHTs) and frontline health workers in disaster response

Distributing emergency health kits, mosquito nets, and reproductive health supplies

Running mobile medical outreaches in hard-to-reach flood zones

Setting up early warning systems using local radio, phones, and river monitoring

Promoting sanitation, hygiene, and environmental health

Planting trees and strengthening community-led buffer zones along rivers

Facilitating community preparedness drills and health education

💡 Over 15,000 residents are already benefiting, with 12 flood-affected parishes being reached. We're not just saving lives during emergencies — we're building long-term resilience in rural healthcare delivery.

📅 Running from July 2024 to June 2026, FloodGuard Kasese is more than a project — it’s a movement for climate justice, health equity, and community empowerment.

Together, we are restoring hope. Together, we are creating a healthier, safer, and more climate-resilient Kasese.

67 million children in Eastern and Southern Africa are living in child food poverty.

Most are surviving on just one or two food groups a day, mostly staple foods with little nutritional value.

This is not only a crisis of hunger but also a crisis of development.

UNICEF is working with partners to improve how food is grown, produced and made available, so every child can grow up nourished, not just fed.

🗳️ Empowering Citizens, Strengthening Democracy in Uganda!

Through the SCEPPA-K (Strengthening Civic Engagement and Political Participation in Kasese) Program, we are witnessing a powerful transformation in how communities—especially youth, women, and marginalized groups—engage with governance and democratic processes.

Over the past months, our voter education sessions, civic forums, and community dialogues have sparked increased awareness, confidence, and participation among citizens across Kasese District. People are asking informed questions, attending civic events, and actively engaging with their leaders.

📢 From civic apathy to civic action, the people of Kasese are reclaiming their voices—and their votes.

SCEPPA-K is directly contributing to Uganda’s efforts to achieve:

✅ SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions – by promoting transparent governance and citizen accountability tools like community scorecards.
✅ SDG 5: Gender Equality – through women-focused political leadership trainings and bootcamps.
✅ SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – by ensuring that rural voters, youth, and marginalized voices are included in decision-making.
✅ SDG 4.7: Civic and Global Citizenship Education – by integrating civic literacy into our outreach and media campaigns.

As Uganda moves toward the 2026 General Elections, SCEPPA-K is laying the foundation for a peaceful, informed, and inclusive democratic society in Kasese.

🕊️ Democracy starts with you. Let's build it together.

We engaged with voters, polling officials, and registrars to monitor the electoral process and promote peaceful, transparent, and inclusive participation in the lead-up to Uganda’s 2026 General Elections.

🗳️ This activity is part of our broader mission to:
âś… Empower citizens to champion democracy
âś… Promote voter education and civic awareness
âś… Foster peaceful democratic processes

Our presence today helped amplify the voices of the people and reinforced the importance of active citizenship in shaping accountable governance.

Musingika Foundation’s health program in disaster-prone areas such as Kasese District has made a transformative impact on vulnerable communities grappling with recurring floods, landslides, disease outbreaks, and displacement. Recognizing the critical intersection between health and climate-induced disasters, we have focused on building resilient, community-based health interventions that address immediate medical needs while strengthening long-term health systems.

In response to frequent flooding along River Nyamwamba and River Mubuku, our mobile health outreach teams have provided emergency medical relief to displaced families, especially children, expectant mothers, and the elderly. Working in collaboration with local health centers, including our partner Kalu Mart Health Centre-Mubuku we’ve ensured timely access to essential healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and maternal services even during crisis periods.

Through health education campaigns on disease prevention, hygiene, and sexual and reproductive health (SRH), Musingika Foundation has empowered communities to reduce risks of waterborne diseases like cholera, malaria, and typhoid. We also train youth and community health volunteers to serve as first responders in emergencies, bridging gaps in local health service delivery.

Our support for mental health and psychosocial well-being has been particularly critical for disaster survivors. We provide trauma counseling and peer support groups for young people affected by loss, displacement, or economic hardship, promoting healing and resilience.

Furthermore, our investment in solar-powered health facilities and clean cooking technologies contributes to safer healthcare delivery and environmental health, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and firewood in off-grid areas.

With a strong community-led approach and partnerships with local authorities, schools, and health units, Musingika Foundation continues to improve health outcomes for disaster-affected populations. Our vision is to scale this impact, ensuring no one is left behind, even in the most hard-to-reach and climate-vulnerable regions of Uganda.

🌊 Musingika Foundation – Community Health Program in Flood-Prone Areas is working for Restoring Hope, Strengthening Health Systems in Rural Uganda

In the flood-prone communities of Kasese and surrounding rural areas, access to healthcare becomes nearly impossible when disasters strike. Roads are washed away, health facilities are submerged, and families are cut off from lifesaving services.

In response to this challenge, Musingika Foundation has intensified its Community Health Program to protect the most vulnerable in the wake of climate-related emergencies.

Our program focuses on building resilience in healthcare delivery for hard-to-reach and disaster-affected villages along rivers and low-lying settlements.

We work with local health workers, community volunteers, and partner facilities like Kalu Mart Health Centre–Mubuku to extend health services directly to people’s doorsteps—especially during floods.

âś… We conduct mobile health outreaches to deliver essential care, including treatment of waterborne diseases, maternal and child health services, and mental health counseling.
âś… We train village health teams (VHTs) to serve as frontline responders during floods.
âś… We provide emergency hygiene kits, reproductive health supplies, and malaria prevention tools like mosquito nets.
âś… We run community health education on flood preparedness, sanitation, and disease prevention.

Our mission is not only to respond, but to prevent avoidable health crises by integrating climate resilience and health in our programming. With increasing climate disasters, the intersection of health and environment has never been more urgent.

💬 “When the floods came, Musingika was the only hope for my pregnant daughter,” says a mother from Nyamwamba. “They reached us when no one else could.”

We are committed to leaving no one behind—even in the hardest-to-reach places.

🗳️ Civic participation is not just a right — it's a responsibility.

Musingika Foundation is proud to spearhead the Civic Engagement and Political Participation Program in Kasese District (July 2025–June 2026), with a mission to empower youth, women, and community members to become active citizens, informed voters, and accountable leaders.

Through civic education outreaches, youth leadership fellowships, and community dialogues, we’re building a culture where people participate meaningfully in shaping their communities and holding duty bearers accountable.

✅ We’re making democracy work from the grassroots! ✅ We’re increasing access to information and civic spaces! ✅ We’re promoting inclusive and peaceful political engagement!

Together, we are advancing SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) — because sustainable development starts with an engaged and empowered citizenry.

At Kalu Mart Health Centre-Mubuku, the medical arm of the Musingika Foundation, we are proud to champion Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through impactful, community-based healthcare interventions across the water catchment areas of River Mubuku and River Nyamwamba in Kasese District.

These regions are home to thousands of families who face unique health challenges due to environmental factors, poverty, and limited access to reliable healthcare. We are working tirelessly to ensure no one is left behind.

Our mission is clear:
âś… Achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for underserved communities
âś… Provide financial risk protection for vulnerable households
âś… Improve access to quality essential healthcare services
âś… Ensure availability of safe, effective, and affordable medicines and vaccines

Through mobile health camps, community outreaches, health education, and partnerships with local leaders and health practitioners, Kalu Mart is reaching mothers, children, the elderly, and youth with lifesaving services — from maternal health to immunization, HIV care, and clean water sensitization.

💡 We recognize that health is not only the absence of illness but the presence of well-being. That’s why our interventions are holistic — integrating health with clean water, hygiene promotion, mental wellness, nutrition, and disease prevention.

Together, we are building a resilient health system that puts people at the center — especially those most at risk.

👏 Join us in transforming healthcare in rural Uganda.
🌱 Health for the People. Health for the Planet. Health for the Future.
