Created and managed by Ashley Rowley (Colorado, US) and Tadeo Kiketta (Kasese, Uganda) I (Ashley) created this page on behalf of Tadeo Kiketta who was introduced to me via Facebook by another friend here in Colorado, Breanna. Tadeo is a teacher and humanitarian living in Kasese, Uganda. We are working together to bring help and money to villagers about 10 miles away from Tadeo's home. Tadeo's wife
Gorret has put a lot of time and effort into collecting information about the needs of the Kyangende families by interviewing and filling out forms that I made. The forms are meant to assess what each family needs most and the costs associated with those things. The idea is to be able to "adopt" a family by choosing who you would like to send money to directly so that you can personally connect with these people and see the difference you can make in their lives. After going through some of the forms I saw very quickly that most of these families are struggling with the same issues and they all have certain things in common:
1) NONE of these families have access to any healthcare of any kind. If there were some kind of life threatening emergency, they could not afford to go to a doctor. If they had a bad infection from a cut, they could not get antibiotics. No annual check ups. NOTHING 2) There is no plumbing or electricity in this area. For those who can afford it, they use a solar panel. Everyone has to travel to a spring to get water. 3) No one has any bedding really and just about everyone has a leaky roof that disrupts their sleep. Even with all of our own financial and personal struggles, Americans forget how privileged we are. Even house-less members of our community have access to many things here that are just not available to these villagers. The opportunities and resources for these people to be able to improve their own lives just don't exist there like they do here. No one is helping these people. Just you, me Tadeo and Breanna. The Red Cross or Amnesty International are not going to swoop in and save the day. There are a lot of great organizations helping millions of people in the world, but they can't save everyone. You can participate directly. From one person to another person. From one family to another. One at a time. A little over a year ago, I created a couple of fundraisers on fb for Tadeo personally to help him finish building his home and to purchase a motorcycle that he could use to bring supplies to the villagers. Some very generous friends of mine and Breanna's quickly raised the money. It was really moving to see that just a small group of regular (not rich) people in the States could improve a person's life in such a big way. It doesn't take much as money goes much further in Uganda than it does here. Tadeo and I thought that maybe we could also raise money for the villagers who are most in need of basic necessities and education for their kids. The money that is collected on this page is sent via World Remit to Kiketta who will distribute the funds accordingly. The villagers themselves do not have internet access. But we hope in the future, if this goes well, that each family will have their needs met and have phones so we can all get to know each other.
