Who pays the price when we remain silent?

When we choose not to speak. When we choose not to act. When we convince ourselves that "someone else will do something."

As part of our 2026 Monthly Leadership Session Series, PeaceJam Uganda warmly invites you to our third Monthly Leadership Session, where we will explore this timely and thought-provoking question:

Who Pays the Price? Of Our Silence. Of Our Choices. Of Our Inaction.

Inspired by our 2026 annual theme, "Radical Courage: Youth Voices in an Age of Endless Global Crisis," this session will invite participants to reflect on the consequences of silence, indifference, and inaction in the face of injustice, conflict, and the everyday challenges affecting our communities.

Together, we will explore who ultimately bears the cost when individuals, communities, or institutions choose not to act. Is silence ever truly neutral? What responsibilities do young people carry in shaping a more just and compassionate society? And how can small, everyday acts of courage create meaningful and lasting change?

The discussion will be led by members of our Volunteer Team, Ian Green Kaahwa Mary Gorretti, and moderated by a member of our Youth Leadership Team, Karungi Mary Sharon.

What an inspiring and energising experience in Ghana!

PeaceJam Uganda team members, Regan Kule and Salim Mbusa recently had the opportunity to represent PeaceJam Uganda at the PeaceJam Ghana Conference and the PeaceJam Pan-African Retreat in Ghana.

The PeaceJam Ghana Conference, held under the theme "Compassion Without Borders", brought together more than 1,200 students, educators, young leaders and PeaceJam leaders. The conference featured the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Winner Kailash Satyarthi, whose lifelong commitment to children's rights and social justice continues to inspire young people around the world. Kailash is one of the 14 Nobel Peace Laureates that PeaceJam works with.

Throughout the conference, they witnessed the "magic of PeaceJam". The space was such a powerful one, as it had incredible family groups, art performances, debates, powerful presentations of community service projects, and an indescribably good "vibe". The conference showcased the impact that youth can have when they are trusted, supported, and empowered to lead. As with all PeaceJam events, the energy in the room was electric.

Immediately after the conference, the PeaceJam Pan-African Retreat took place in Koforidua, bringing together representatives from across the African PeaceJam community. The retreat provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships, explore opportunities for collaboration and collectively reflect on the future of PeaceJam across the continent.

Together with fellow chapter representatives, they explored ways to build stronger connections between the PeaceJam chapters, support one another's work, and develop a shared vision for the years ahead. They also contributed to discussions around a Pan-African strategy that will help guide and strengthen PeaceJam's presence and impact across Africa and beyond.

More than that, the retreat served as a reminder of the importance of community. It was encouraging to spend time with passionate individuals from different countries who share a common belief in the power young people have to transform their communities and the world.

The PeaceJam Uganda representatives have returned from Ghana grateful, inspired, and full of new ideas. They expressed their appreciation to PeaceJam Ghana, the PeaceJam Foundation, fellow African chapter leaders, and everyone who made these experiences possible and memorable.

Most importantly, they returned with a renewed commitment to supporting young people, strengthening peacebuilding efforts, and continuing to build bridges across communities and countries. The future of peacebuilding in Africa is bright, and young people are helping to lead the way.

Thank you very much to everyone who joined our first PeaceJam Uganda Monthly Youth Leadership Session on the topic “Can Youth Solidarity Survive Division in a Polarised World?” 🌍✨

Thank you to our speakers, Churchill and Sharon for sharing their insights and perspectives during the session. The discussions explored the importance of youth solidarity in times of growing division, and reflected on how young people can continue to promote empathy, and collective action even in challenging global circumstances. We are also grateful to our moderator Titus for guiding the discussions and giving it such an incredible direction.

This session was part of our ongoing series under the 2026 PeaceJam Uganda theme:
“Radical Courage: Youth Voices in an Age of Endless Global Crisis.”

We look forward to continuing these conversations in the coming months and welcoming even more young people into the PeaceJam Uganda community.

In a world that is becoming increasingly divided, young people continue to find ways to come together, through movements, initiatives, and spaces built on shared values and purpose. But an important question remains: Can youth solidarity survive division in a polarized world?

As part of our 2026 theme, “Radical Courage: Youth Voices in an Age of Endless Global Crisis,” PeaceJam Uganda invites you to reflect on this question in the first of our Monthly Youth Leadership Sessions.

These sessions are a new space we have created, for young people to engage with real issues, share experiences, and learn from one another. Each month, members of our Youth Leadership Team will lead conversations that challenge, inspire, and encourage active civic participation.

This first session will explore whether youth-led efforts to unite, organize, and act can withstand growing political, social, and ideological divisions, and what it takes to sustain solidarity in such a context.

We look forward to having you join the conversation.

PeaceJam Uganda has organized an incredible youth workshop which will haopen on Sunday, 12 April 2026 at Kireka Recreation Park, Kampala! 🌿✨

This gathering will bring together members of the Youth Leadership Team, Core Team, volunteers, and prospective PeaceJam Mentors for a relaxed, interactive space to connect, share ideas, get to know one another and concretize activity plans for 2026.

Under the theme “Unmute the Youth! Your Voice. Your Space. Your Moment”, the workshop will focus on encouraging young people to own their voices, step into civic action, and build radical courage in the face of challenges in their communities and the world.

We can’t wait to meet, reflect, and plan a year of meaningful engagement and youth-led change! 💬🌍
