WHAT DO WE DO? Mubende Stoves manufacture and sell three types of Improved Cook Stove - charcoal burning stoves, wood burning stoves and institutional stoves. Each of these stoves has a beneficial impact on the environmen
t and upon the health (and finances) of those who use them. Mubende Stoves also train and employ disadvantaged young people at every stage of the business - from stove building through to sales and marketing. Each of our stoves is designed to have greater thermal efficiency than its traditional counterpart. Each stove is also designed to burn fuel more efficiently and cleanly than traditional cooking methods. This means that the stoves consume less fuel, emit fewer harmful pollutants and reduce the amount of time it takes to cook. FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: Uganda is facing a biofuel crisis. Forest reserves are being rapidly depleted and the countryside is being badly damaged by charcoal production. Improved Cook Stoves reduce the rate of fuel consumption and raise local awareness of the need for environmental protection.
The stoves also significantly reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions, a current global priority in the fight to tackle climate change. It is the poorest communities who suffer the gravest consequences of climate change, with fluctuations in seasons making subsistence farming a very precarious way of life.
FOR PEOPLE: 5 people die every day in Uganda as a result of acute respiratory infections caused by the way they are cooking. Improved Cook Stoves reduce the air pollution which families are exposed to.
Thanks to their efficiency, the stoves also consume less fuel, freeing up family finances which can be used on other necessities such as education and health care.
